BFG GeForce 7600 GT OC PCI Express 256MB -
After installing on winXP, ABIT KN8 SLI,
Ive lost internet.
1)Checked network connections -1309 netowrk -it says connected. when I go to fix it - error: windows ubable to query tcpip. So I went into dos and typed:
netsh int ip reset logfile.txt
rebooted- no internet. Im now going to try and run winsockxpfix.exe on it
2)Ipconfig - nothing under windows settings. No IP. ipconfig /renew - nothing
3)Nic Card is enabled and working
4) 2nd computer on network works fine - internet works no issues.
5) Ethernet cabke is lit up when plugged into nic card.
Any help appreciated

1 - attempted to install nic driver from mobo cd- it failed. It said NVidia Hardware not found.
2 - Network connections + Network locations were started already in admin tools
3 - Reinstalled tcpip in windows components - did nothing
4 - Mobo already had lan card as enabled
5- Not an ISP issue as 2nd computer on network works fine. Share 1 router.
6- Ipconfig shows no ip#. There is no LAN connection. There is no network adaptor besides 1349 firewall.
IRQs- nic card doesnt even show up anywhere in windows as using an IRQ.
Well - that covers about it all. Will look for an old pci Nic card. Hopefully that works.

How about you just format and go with a fresh install of Windows?

That is last option. I have a strong feeling it is leading up to that. Ofcourse, there is 200GB of data that needs to be backed up before that. Its just extra time to do. I think what happened is Nvidia driver installation corrupted the nic card. Only way to fix is reformat (or hopefully using a ethernet pci card).

Your HDD isn't partitioned? If not GET ON IT! Who can live with a single partition now-days? Backing up 200gigs of data every format would drive me insane especially since I tend to format once every couple months.

Wait...Is it too late to partition it now? Even with the OS and personal files on it?
Is this possible with partitionmagic or whatever? Im wondering if I can highlight the 150GB data - and say make it a seperate partion. Then, the 50GB I would format for windows.

The space you wish to partition has to be empty. That's why it's best done during the Windows installation setup because you would be formatting anyway.
The only way partition magic would let you make a partition now is with whatever free space is left on your drive, that would be useless in your situation. Also it may not let you at all because it's all based on what's where on the HDD.
For now just back all your stuff the hard way but at least you know now to partition it. I use a 20/300 split for Windows/Games-Music-Data-Etc.

if you re-install a fresh copy of windows fresh on that partition, won't it wipe out the registry settings for the games on the other one?

Yeah the registry settings for any programs or games on the non OS partition will be gone but those apps will still function fine. I usually just throw a shortcut on my desktop from the Non OS partition after a format rather then re-installing all the games.

Fixed! Nvidia responded to my trouble ticket today and told me to download the mobo driver version 6.86. I did - it found the onboard nic card right away - internet worked immediately.
So, didnt need to pull out the old nic pci or format..
Next time when I install windows - i will definately make 2 partitions..
It seems uninstalling the 'nvidia' drivers in the beginning also not only uninstalled the nvida graphic card (geforce 6600) but also uninstalled the onboard nic card.
Thanks for all your help!! Been a huge assistance!!
