|
 |
All the HD movies released have been from transport streams, so ripped off TV. When will x264 rips of HD-DVD's be out? The Xbox360 has a HD DVD player for cheap that works with a comp and PowerDVD just recently released a new version that reads HD-DVDs. Is there any hold up?
Just asking cause I saw a 5gb 1080p copy of iceage on usenet and the quality was awesome. We'd be able to get HD dvd's at less than DVD sizes

Yah, even on my 108" screen the 720p rip looks better than raw ts streams at like 20gb a film. All about the source.

Even x360 can't play proper h264 rips yet... It's supposedly set to get an update to allow it to play them, but even then, most rips won't work because MS is putting some seriously stupid restrictions.
Can't say much about the iguana rips, as I'm not into the x264 scene. I get my HD rips from a certain closed torrents site that has its own community and own rippers/cappers.

It does, obviously, but it's not for here... And don't PM me anyway, because it's hard-closed for now and we can't even invite new users there... (I mean who puts 15000 limit )

iguanas rls's arent x264 or h264 they are wmv, they can be burned to a dvd9 and played in your regular DVDROM on ur 360 (Not the HDDVD addon) or you can stream them using media connect 2 from ur pc. The WMV are the same quality as x264 but u can play them on ur 360 with out having to transcode. So you get smooth playback and no hassels encoding.

Pfft, same quality...
Obviously you haven't watched h264 rips... I bet you are one of those that say MPEG4 ASP (DivX, Xvid) has the same quality as H264/AVC (x264).
VC1 has the potential to display image quality *close* to h264, but wmv encoders don't really encode to that codec, so...

@LeoNatan obviously uve never encoded to wmv, windows advance profile is VC1. I have seen both same movie done in both formats there is no diffrence in the quality. Get your nfo right before u start talking like u know everything.

Hey guys, what is the best player for x264 movies? I am currently using VLC although it seems to lag a bit here and there. That may have been because i was playing them off a network share, but it seems even in the nfo's they suggest using other players.

ffdshow has an audio decoder as well, so yeah, AC3, DTS, FLAC... Pretty much anything you throw at it, with the exception of DD+, but I'm sure it will also be incorporated when time is right and DD+ is widespread.
