|
 |
I got a CD for the eBook of the current Text book I am using, I only have it temperately so I plan on just copying it and returning the CD.
the eBook is ran by running the eBook.exe in the directory, launching an application which views the files.
after I copied everything from the CD to a directory on my HD, when I run the eBook.exe it says the CD is invalid.
has anyone ran into similar problems before?
PS: Im not sure where to post this so I just posted here....

Don't copy everything from the CD to a folder, just make an image of the CD with Alcohol or similar program.

WTF ???
Scan it with Protection ID
EDIT: Also try uninstalling its application completely and reinstalling it from the mounted cd

You sure that shell you run with the ebook.exe is necessary? The contents may be stored in some common format like HTML or XML and the ebook.exe just launches a browser to view 'em with some custom interface. It may be a solution if you don't manage to make the image work.

yeah I checked the directory but it doesn't have any of the common files. The main bulk of pages are in .idx format.
I tried adding the files in this program but it didn't add anything... it doesn't seem to support the format from the CD

could you be more specific? the eBook.exe is a program I think, and I think it's checking the CD when it is ran.

something I just thought of, why don't you make a 1:1 copy using alcohol? since it's cd, it'll work if that is what the protection is based on (bad sectors, disk measurements, etc)

I uploaded it here .
I hope it's not against the rules since it's not warez, the .exe by itself gives the same error that I am getting.

You may have to edit an .ini to specify the correct path to the cd-rom (since you installed from the original, from a physical drive, and you want to use an image, from a virtual drive, the drive letters are different) Remember to backup all files you edit.
If that doesn't work test the following file and report back :

Just for completeness, I have to say that if you run ProtectionID on the file you posted, you'll find out it is Safedisc protected. (version 2.40 something)
Therefore you can follow the same method as with old safedisc protected games. Image the cd with safedisc profile in Alcohol etc. You obviously didn't use the correct settings. (or the program checks only the drive it was installed from, or just checks the first drive it finds, not uncommon in some old games anyway)

Hi, your executable is protected with an old app raped like hell. Use SafeDisc 2 Cleaner v1.1.2 (44.8KB)

I already "safedisc-cleaned" it and uploaded it. You can see his reply. Pretty strange that he gets that message about Shockwave.

@ Freakness
I don't think so. I believe it wasn't "safedisc-cleaned" correctly because I didn't have the required dll's in the same dir (at the time of the unwrapping), that's why it screws up. Wish I had all the files.
Anyway clragon, if you're still interested please use safedisc cleaner 1.20 yourself on the executable. (goddamn it, I hate loose ends ! )
