Yea, 64 bit is shit for driver support.
32bit is pretty much all you need anyway. 64bit computing as stated in the past relies on driver support getting a lot better.
Format and install is the method I'd suggest? All 'activation' can be done after you install without a key.

I went from Vista 64-bit to its 32-bit version after a month... because the OS by itself is slower than the 32-bit version, which makes it useless even for my 3 Gb of ram, because it use some 64-bit libraries that render unusable a lot of needed tools (video, some codecs, etc), because of its overrestrictive policy of signed drivers. You shouldn't go over the 64-bit version yet, you will lose your time for no gain when it is not worse performances.

i see alot of people saying go 64bit but i know for a fact 32bit is the main focus in computing
and will continue to be that way for a long time... 64bit is in cpu technology but is slow developing in the software.

I have been pleasantly suprised by the availability and usability of 64-bit drivers.

It's not only about drivers, applications need to be written to take advantage of 64bit computing otherwise the speed difference will not be noticeable.

All other things being equal (and I know they aren't equal for vista at the moment), running 32-bit apps in a 64-bit enviro isn't going to decrease performance by much if at all. And the apps that have the most to gain (NLE, etc.) are probably going to go 64-bit quicker than the industry as a whole. It needs more time to play out, but I see a lot of reason for optimism about the 64-bit security improvements. And AFAIK, the annoyances of UAC are in the x86 build as well- correct?
