The day of running backups from a external harddrive connected to the PS3 are almost here -

Looks like I'll be getting a PS3 after all later this year. Though I'd rather have a full hack + loader for the 360, that's where the games are at.
Xecuter has just an adapter, but Paradox has the loader software apparently.
They really need to start stripping the padding data from the games then. They might say 20GB+ but in actuality (same as PS2) not even half that.

The euro consoles are already locked out from the consumer with a price of 845 dollars. But yea an XBMC type of thing on the PS3 sounds great, but the 360 would be a better candidate since it's powerpc cores would be far easier to harness for decoding HD content by the homebrew programmers.

I don't think the PS3 will need to be that hacked to get XBMC like capabilities... Its already running linux, someone just have to sit down, customize a Linux and add some media playback functionality.
Behold his GLORY! Bow for the technical master!

Yeah, But the chances of the 360 getting some homebrew are very little, MS seems to have done a good job is locking the console up with the hypervisor.
I thought the PS3 had similar specs to the 360 anyway? Surely it can handle decoding HD content no problem?

Linux on the PS3 is totally crippled since you can't access any of the GFX hardware side of things media playback will be nearly impossible to do.

It's true that HW is quite crippled, but there's still access to 6 SPUs so YUV/RGB conversion and scaling should be feasible even without access to the nVidia RSX. To be sure you only need to give a couple of PS3 to the ffmpeg/lavc coders... (=

Yeah, but it still can't handle HD decoding without the RSX can it?

I wonder if the loader is sponsored by Sony, at least people will buy the console if they can get those damn shitty games for free!!!

Because Sony is the most arrogant bastard on the planet. They talk so much utter BS and smack and when they fail to deliver (as they often do) the fans and average joes alike dont care, they just gobble up their shit and ask for seconds.
If sony were A LOT more humble with their PR approach they'd get a lot less hate, but then again they'd get none of the hype that keeps their shit afloat.
Nintendo doesnt talk smack and they still kick pretty much everybodys ass right now (especially Sony's PSP). Microsoft(Xbox) tends to be proud when they have something good to show but generally avoids talking shit that would later get them in trouble because unlike Sony, THEY WILL be held accountable for PROMISES.

Because they have the world record in overhyping a product, and Sony kills PC gaming!
