OK been checking some prices of VISTA on Amazon...MAD!
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic Upgrade EUR 139,00
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Upgrade EUR 229,00
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade EUR 349,00
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic EUR 259,00
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium EUR 329,00
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate EUR 549,00
Been running a legit version of XP so far (came with a DELL like 4 years ago)
But this, EUR 549,00, NO WAY! I could spend that doe on another 8800GTX and have a nice SLI rig here
So been reading around here and i am sort a confused.
Simply, what version out there will work? and does any of the versions allow auto update and stuff?
I guess this have been discussed but the threads are just to clogged up to get a clear answer.

I guess "Home Premium" or "Vista Ultimate" are the versions to consider.

OH CRAP!did nor realize that you HAVE! to buy a PC there...sure?
Read this
in PC WELT
http://www.pcwelt.de/news/software/65202/index.html
Brief translation : "Earlier OEM versions of OS where not allowed to be sold except when buying a new PC/System. But since the year 2000 that has changed due to a ruling in the State Court, OEM versions of OS can now be sold separately"
EDIT: 100% no need to buy any PC etc.

Well, like the title says for this thread "what version of VISTA works 100% ?" I did not plan to buy, when i started the thread
But somehow...been reading around a bit and its "crack this" and "patch that" for me the OS have to be just stable and ALWAYS! work, updates etc etc. I wonder if its worth just to dl a version and then get fuuked along the way...just because one did not want to spend 200 bucks...I wonder...

With the AntiWPA crack, Vista works perfectly fine, and all updates install fine.

Well, I'm using the BillGates release with MSDN patch. I install with the "2099" trick, after install I return the year to 2007, run an EXE and click "Install" that's it, lol.

It is better to install in 2007 then reboot with the 2099 trick, rearm, reboot to 2007 again and run the timerfix, the dates will be 2007 and not 2099.
Btw all versions are working, either in x86 or x64, your 30 days left for validation will be frozen.

So how does the 2099 trick work? I understand that I need to install 2007..but do I change to 2099 after its installed (in vista) - use some kind of program and then reboot and change to 2007? (and then run the timerfix)
shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.

Basically, there are 2 ways to apply the 2099 trick.
First is to set the year before the setup, install Vista, then return it to 2007.
The other is to set the date to 2099 after install using "date" command in cmd.exe, run the "slmgr -rearm" command to rearm WPA and DO NOT RESTART, set the date back to 2007 using "date" in cmd.exe, run the crack installer, click "Install" and then restart.
Either way it works flawlessly.

Last question here. We have this contractor company doing our PCs and stuff at work, one of the guys told me there is a program that allows you to switch easy between OS at start up. Can't remember it atm. Does it ring a bell...someone?

Cox: just use a bootloader, XP/Vista has one built in but i havn't used to boot any other os than Windows. There is a bunch of other bootloaders made for *nix though (like lilo or grub) that can be setup to boot any OS (including windows).

Maybe I should have said monopolitistic software company to make it clear.
I live in a small city, so only electricity and phone I can choose from different companies. But it's a totally different world from software to such things, they shouldn't be compared!

Thats pathetic...
Windows Vista in the US has almost all programs in it and you pay around 360 bucks for Ultimate...
In EU you have to pay around 600 Bucks for it and ITS Stripped of alot of programs due to EU wanted their "competition" to be equal...
Dont really think thats fair...
