Posted: Tue, 16th Jan 2007 06:29 Post subject: Blizzard hints at new Starcraft by 2008. |
|
 |
Blizzard fans were out in force in London tonight, celebrating the launch of the much anticipated World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade expansion, but another Blizzard game might have stolen the limelight.
Itzik Ben Bassat, Vice President Business Development and International for Blizzard Entertainment, took the stage at HMV Oxford Street, London, and said some rather revealing words.
"I'm a StarCraft player myself and I hope it's not a decade, and we launched StarCraft in 1998, before I'm standing here again, celebrating the next game in the series," stated Bassat while on stage.
So, while not an official date for the next game in the StarCraft series, a new game by 2008 looks very likely. We'll keep our ear to the ground for more info.

Yes please.
As I was not a big Starcraft 1 fan, I do love WC3 because of how well polished it was. Blizzard could put SC2 together brilliantly and I'd love it. As I am trying to get away from PC games that take up a lot of time, this might be a bad thing.

I really hope they will not extend their other universes into MMOs, that is the time I will loose all respect for Blizzard. World of Crapcraft for the lose!

Well, starcraft was revolutionary title a decade ago.. but now we've seen thousands of rts's..(thought, not many original conceptions..)
It will be very hard to bring a second part on the same level, eventually it will have amazing graphics, but could it bring something new in a gameplay term, or more of the same..?
anyway with all the mmorpg mania- i've really stopped admiring blizzard, and i've used to love them for their past games...

And like the other guy said... its quite a challenge to introduce a new rts to the market as revolutionary as starcraft was 10 years ago, devs are running out of ideas, but you never know |
well look at relic, WWII has been dev'd to shit, but they come out with company of heroes which was a bad ass RTS and pretty much everyone loved it. Dawn of War owns. But yet no one has the classes that star craft did, Zerg n the Protoss were bad ass, I'd be down just for them to bring those 2 classes back along with the humans with just updated GFX and a new Story.

That's some really good news. I thought Blizzard had forgot about everything else except it's precious WoW.
Now I only need Diablo 3, and I'll be happy.

as much as I hate to say this, the world of starcraft would be a cool one, if they keep the units in tact. Cmon, playing as the protoss o.0 Though I have lost all hope in Blizzard after they cancelled Star Craft Ghost and only really been working on WoW

I think there is little chance they can come up with something that can surpass Starcraft: Brood War. So it's better for them to just put in new shining 3D graphics, 1 or 2 new units, new story lines and they're set.
Sig too big.

If they can achieve a war feeling throughout that, then im all in, playing as a marine during an intense confrontation with Zergs makes me drool!

let's don't forget that it's EA behind it-the new ideas & concepts are not something they're known for |
Well, as they have said, they are going back to C&C's roots with Tiberium Wars, which is also underlined by the fact that they are using CGI with real actors.
