It's either going to be savestates / disc select for PSX games, Or maybe an improved flash recovery feature. I can't think of anything else he could add. Razz

I hate to keep upgrading, but the features DA keeps bringing us over the last few weeks are impossible to ignore.

It seemed only a few weeks a go that devhook was the favoured system, now its almost a memory.

I looked up "gormless" in the dictionary, it said "without gorm" .... so i looked up "gorm" but it wasn't there ????

Devhook is pretty much dead now if you ask me. There is no longer any point to it, only for those still scared to update their virgin 1.5 systems and want to use Devhook instead.

I updated my Virgin 1.5 to D_A firmware, best thing I ever did to my PSP. No more devhook. Though I respect those who kept supporting it and creating updates for it, so kudos to those guys.

It will simply allow full resolution avc videos (480x272) to be played on the psp official player by breaking the 320x240 current limit for avc video playback resolution on the psp official video player.

that's it!

Actually I was the one to give Magixien the info by phone xD.
Anyway I told him to remain vague on the release date and more than everything on the upcomming features.

Btw about those people who use to play videos on their psps will be happily surprised, but I wont say more

P.S. No, nothing regarding pops improvements on this release, sorry for the ones expecting those.

Mathieulh @ maxconsole wrote:
Ok as it seems too many people have been speculating too much about upcomming 3.03OE-B features, I'll leak the main feature info.

It will simply allow full resolution avc videos (480x272) to be played on the psp official player by breaking the 320x240 current limit for avc video playback resolution on the psp official video player.

Videos will use the same container (MP4) as any other videos encoded for the official player, thus no need to use pmp player anymore or to encode videos to pmp format Smile

I've been using devhook for quite a while now, and I just noticed this custom firmware from alex.

What are the main features of this firmware? Can it run psp games in .cso/.iso format (like devhook did). And how does the psx emulation work, where do I put the game files in order to run them?

thanks in advance

I wonder if Dark Alex can build a house out of bricked PSP's...
He sure has to waste a lot of those while trying out his code...

OMG You have missed alot of fun Razz... Forgot 1.5 Firmware, thats a thing of the past now...

Dark Alex's custom firmware allows booting of ISO / CSO games Direct from the Game menu!!! Also allows the booting of all homebrew. The PSX emulation works by using Sonys inbuilt PSX Emu (You will get the PSX to PSP image converter with Dark Alex's custom firmware) and the converted PSX games just go into your GAME folder and you just select them from the game menu.

To sum it up, DA custom Firmware is the official 3.03 firmware but with the ability to run homebrew like 1.5 plus alot more (Its actually a combination of 3.03 and 1.5 firmware files..)

Just upgrade to it, I guarantee (and so will 99.9% of people in the PSP Scene) that you will not be disapointed with it!!! Smile

Heres a quote from MAxconsole with some comparisons -

Quote:
LEGEND
+++= 3.0X OE-X Exclusive
++ = Advantage 3.0X OE-X Also possible on 1.50 but you have to start Devhook (Firmware loaded from MS) or X-Flash
+ = Also possible on 1.50 but you have to start Devhook (Firmware loaded from MS)
= Not an Advantage but a Feature like in 1.50
- = Not possible (Contra)

1.50 ADVANTAGES
+ All Homebrew working (UMD-Emulator or PSPSet and PSP-Movie UMD Backups loading)
+ Play new PSP Games that require Firmware up to 3.03 (-Have to use Devhook)
+ New Media Formats playable (-Have to use Devhook)
+ All 3.03 Features and Enhancements over 1.50 (Music, Visualizer, h264, WMA, H264, Flash and More Media TypesPlayback...)
+ Stable official Sony Firmware
+ Emulate every Firmware (-with Devhook) without flashing MCP

3.0X OE-X ADVANTAGES
+++ Hacked PSX Emulator (Play your own PSX-Disk Backups converted and compressed to Eboot)
+++ Memory Sticks over 4GB supported (8GB and bigger)
+++ No Space on the Memory Stick needed (Everything is in Flash while Devhook needs around 20MB MS-Space)
+++ Recovery Mode (Rescue a Semi-Bricked PSP and configure Special features)
+++ Region Free (Changer)
+++ X-O Button changer (for imported JAP PSP's for Example) integrated into Firmware
+++ 3.0X Features and 1.50 Features in one FW without Devhook
++ All 3.0X Features and Enhancements over 1.50 (Music, Visualizer, h264, WMA, H264, Flash and More Media TypesPlayback...)
++ PRX-Plugins from MemoryStick (Overclock to 333MHZ, Brightness Level 4 without AC, Cheat Module...)
++ Load PSP-Backups from XMB (Save Battery and faster Loading Times)
++ Load compressed PSP-Backups (CSO, alot smaller but Games like GTA Lag)
++ NoUMD-Mode (Expand Laser Unit Lifetime with Backups from MS currently not supperted by Devhook)
++ Skip SCE Logo (Integrated changer in Recovery Mode)
++ Activate WMA and Flash Player offline (Registry Hack via Recovery Mode)
+ 1.00 Eboot support (Not Kxploited) Tiny advantage. Most if not all hb is in 1.50 format.
+ Auto Eboot Launch Tiny advantage. Just press a few extra buttons, if you really do use this feature.
+ Play UMD-Games that require Firmware 2.00-3.0X No advantage. Use devhook.
+ WMA,H264,Flash and More Media Types supported No advantage. devhook.
+ UMD-Autostart ON/OFF Feature
Nearly all 1.50 Homebrew works (3.0X OE-X is a modified Hybrid-FW of 1.50 and 3.0X)
Devhook Supported

3.0X OE-A CONTRA
- Some Savegames from 1.50 Devhook don't work (Play it again with 33% more FPS (333MHZ) on 3.0X OE-X Smile
- NoUMD Mode Compatibility Problems for some Games
- Nearly full Flash 0 (Not much Space for big Gameboot.pmf's etc.)
- Location Free Player removed (Not enough Space Left in Flash0 but nearly noone uses it)
- Big Korean Font Files removed from Flash 0 (Relinked to other small Font)
- Completely reflash of onboard MCP needed (Not really risky, nearly anyone of the Bricks didn't read Instructions right)
- PSP-Movie UMD Backups not working yet

3.0X OE-X is definately the "Golden Firmware". It's better than the plain 1.50 and any other official or unofficial Firmware out there. So stop asking. It has all the strenghts and none of the weaknesses of 1.50. And it's getting better with every update. You can downgrade everytime to 1.50 (Really Senseless). If anyone asks wich is the best Firmware, send him to this Thread. Now with the new Popstation cracked to play nearly any PSX-Game compressed and fullspeed i feel like in Heaven. Dark Alex is definately the King of the PSP Homebrew scene. Muchas Gracias.... For now, i can't imagine how to make this beautiful Firmware any better, but i'm shure it will get better... Anyway. Stop asking this Questions and update your PSP with the new Golden Firmware. SONY definately got owned....

Brington - I think DA had a PSP With UP chip installed donated to him so he can personally test the firmware and if it bricks the PSP he just re flashes with the UP Chip and keeps trying till he gets a working version Smile

can you use screenshot mods and stuff like that with these? yeah im STILL on devhook, and the only thing thats really holding me back is that i love just being able to cycle through games in the xmb and adjust clockspeed and take screenshots... can this do ALL of that right off the bat?

isos still go in the iso folder?

my savegames still work?

does homebrew work?

how easy is it to jump back to 1.5 if i need too... its just hard to update when ive got everything running so well at the moment... only reason im tempted to update really is all those psx games Very Happy

finally, how easy is it to update from one version to the next. do you have to do an uninstall and then install the next version, or does the new version basically function like a simple update? please answer as many of my questions as you can. thanks.

With DAs firmwares you have to be *very* careful with your homebrew/plugins. Each new DA FW can be bricked (like with icintro) if old homebrew is installed - specially flashed. Have to check the forums 1st & hope for a new compatible version of the homebrew.

Also w the new Devhooks in DA's readme he says *not* to use the DH flash option.

Yes - ISO's in MS:\ISO

I have had 0 problems with savegames from PSX-PSP games (CV SOTN, FF7) as well as PSP games (XMen 2, Marvel UA, etc) so far

CPU speed is selected by entering DAs recovery menu when powering on the PSP (hold down R trigger) - my copy of FF7 even with 'ait' enabled for battles is fast (!)

You can go back to 1.5 ok - use the recovery option thru DA's recovery menu - you need to copy some recovery files to your MS: & follow a guide as to renaming files & locations.
Actually here is a pre-made 1.5 recovery from QJ.NET:-
http://forums.qj.net/f-psp-firmware-discussion-253/t-303-oe-a-i-need-some-helpplease-89591.html

DA's firms are very easy to update - from 3.03OE-A to ..-A2 was a 2 second flash & no reboot. To 3.03OE-B was another 2 second flash. From 3.02OE-B -> 3.03OE-A was another complete flash - you have to generate the DXAR file which can take like 1/2 hour if you have a Sony MS. Else it is like 3-4 minutes on a Sandisk MS.

So far I have thanks to Sutura been flashing DA's firms like crazy as they come out weekly now.

I'm Lovin' It Very Happy Very Happy

Wow - how cool is that :-

"Many thanks for the unlocked AVC video and the full DOCUMENT.DAT functionality, Dark_AleX !

Now I can quickly access all my walkthroughs right from inside the game. It even remembers the last page you were on."

Previous document.dat's were limited to like 100 pages - this FW goes up to 1000 I tink

Frickin' amazin' DA FW Very Happy

You still have to reencode the movies right? It's not like you can just throw a divx or xvid file at it and it works?

HA HA! I know exactly how you feel. I too just updated one week ago to 3.02OE-A from a virgin 1.5 that I had for so long. It too has treated me well.

But lets face it, the new D_A firmware 3.03OE-B is capable of pretty much everything that 1.5 has to offer. Only thing is PSX games cannot be played in 1.5 and probably wont ever be played even with Devhook.

Going from 1.5 to 3.03OE-B is the best thing any PSP owner can do. Virgin 1.5 PSP is pretty much dead. There is no reason to stay at 1.5 any longer.

Thanks to Steve-O-2004 for the explanation about DA's firmware. I did an install of it last night, worked like a charm. Smile awsome firmware.

I read somewhere that this firmware is capable of emulating NES/SNES/GBA roms. Where do I place the rom files? I tyed placing them in the game folder like PSX, but they don't show up in the menu.
