Irvine, Calif. - Monday, March 28, 2005 - Blizzard Entertainment® today announced their plans to debut World of Warcraft®: Northrend™ the first expansion to World of Warcraft®, its award winning massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). The expanion will add new player races, a new faction and a whole new continent for players to explore.

"We are very excited about this." said Mike Morhaime, president of Blizzard Entertainment. "World of WarCraft has been a tremendous worldwide success and we look forward to giving our customers much more content to explore. The expansion will further the game's storyline in conjunction with free content that Blizzard plans to release in the coming months."

The expansion will be aimed largely at higher level players, and will involve a higher level cap, bigger and larger dungeons both inside and outside in Northrend and elsewhere, and many new items and quests. Blizzard is also expected to announce that the game's graphic engine has been further enhanced as planned to keep World of WarCraft in line with the latest technology.

After its debut at E3, World of Warcraft®: Northrend™ is expected to go into beta testing over the summer and be released in late 2005.

Note: For real? We will never know until E3. Hopefully, this is not yet another April Fool's Joke announcement Remember the two-headed playable ogre race?

that doesnt sound like a hell of a lot of features for an expansion pack to me - it's basically just: the same thing you were doing before - but more of it! I'll wait for the nitty gritty details methinks Smile

I'd rather see World of Warcraft: Ultima Online PvP Ruleset with Factions. World of Warcraft seems currently pointless (I am an active player) without big PvP and wars with things to lose and gain. Current PvP is completely pointless and if there were stakes in PvP and a really nice PvP system such as factions in UO, I'd be power levelling as we speak...

At the least they could add a new class.....

It's a hoax. I'm sure there's an expansion in the works, but this particular "press release" is 100% bullshit.

Bullshit or not, this is not the point, because EVERYBODY knows that Blizzard will somehow try to milk the cow again and again.
We all know that an expansion is (for sure) in developpement.

So why not ?

When has blizzard ever milked the cow? Can you name one title?

We all know that blizzard provides an addon for every game they make. For Diablo2 they produced even two addons correct? Blizzard has quality games, no one can go around that.

Avirox, It's clear that you have a totally different taste for games than me or you just don't like MMORPGS at all. And yeah EQ2 gets quite alot of content, it would have been great if EQ wasn't a PoS game.......

Actually, I think all blizzard games since diablo1 have had exactly 1 addon, no more, no less. D1 had something like, Hellfire? Starcraft had broodwars. D2 had Lord of Destruction. warcraft 3 had frozen throne.

"Milking the cow" doesn't mean especially for me that they produce a shitload of crappy sequels, but that they produce maybe ultrafine addons, maybe sometimes useless, just to make more money.

Blizzard = Game company = Capitalism
When there is money to make, you can count on capitalists to be there.
But I agree that Blizzard does it the nice way =D

Those fuckers better not be developing an expansion right now, they haven't even finished BATTLEGROUNDS, which they said during beta it'd be in the game when it was released. Evil or Very Mad

I'm positive some other dev team is working on the addon, while a special team of devs handle WoW.

Some say bullshit flies, other clame it floats, I say it's right here at nForce.

Seriously, what is it with kids and blaming corporates for their own peurile adolescence?

1. This is a capitalistic world.
2. In a capitalistic world corporates need to do what is required to remain in existence.
3. To remain in existence, corporates in a capitalistic world need have a high revenue.
4. To gain high revenue, corporates in a capitalistic world need to sell.
5. What gains high revenue is what sell a lot.
6. What sells a lot is what's popular among a bigger audience.
------------------------
7. To remain in existence in a capitalistic world, a company needs to sell to a bigger audience.

From the conclusion (7) we can easily realize that the needs of the few do not outweigh the needs of the many.

It's the foundations of the western world.

It's rather naive to debate this.

Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.
