when ever i play any game online as soon as punkbuster starts to updates itself the game crashes (pc lucks up) & i have to restart pc . this goes for any game i have tried to play online.i have downloaded the punkbuster update tool & updated punkbuster to latest version i even spent hours formatting my computer but still the same thing !!.you guys are my last hope.

Sounds like a firewall problem.
Or has your mobo got two lan ports?

hi jenni,
last year i used to play soldier of fortune 2 fine using the same meotherboard but now i cant so i doubt its the MB & the firewall i'm using now is (pc cillin) i'm not sure if it will cause any problems because i have allowed the game full access to the internet & i can play ok for 15 to 20 seconds before punkbuster starts updating itself !!

Just my 5 cents on this. Been a hard core BF gamer for a long time and my experience with PB is...lets say "split"  But do you have "pbsetup.exe" inside ur PB folder in the game? if not dl it and put it there, then run an update FROM WITHIN! the pb folder using pbsetup.exe.
Hope that helps, it does on BF2/2142 anyhow.
Just a question, what game/games does this problem happen in?

i have even downloaded the files from the pb website & placed them in the html folder but still carshes mate, games are battlefield 2 & soldier of fortune 2. these are only 2 games i have.

thanks very much for your help mate, i still cant find the answer why punkbuster crashes my computer ?? i'm starting to think its a hardware problem but not sure what might be causing it ?my GC is x1900xt ,memory is 2gig crucial ddr,cpu is dual core x2 4200 amd64 ??? or maybe its my Kworld freeview tv card ???

I found out that a lot of time TV cards cause a lot of unexpected problems.
Try disconnecting the TV card from it's PCI slot and see if anything changes.

Well, sounds pretty weird to me. Sorry I could not help more man. I guess the best way is maybe to post on one of those BF forums, as the ppl there are more hard core reg BF and PB etc. I guess if you get BF going you will have SOF II running as well. I have read about crashes and disconnects in BF related to BP, but for me like I said the solution was to update PB from within the PB folder.

ok i have some hope at last in fixing this problem,i have searched google for my cpu type freezing errors & found this thread http://forums.amd.com/lofiversion/index.php/t70315.html & read one post where the freezing problem was fixed by updating NF4 chipset driver so i downloaded latest driver installed it & tested SOF2 for about 5 minutes NO SYSTEM CRASH !!! i will test it again tomorrow with BATTLEFIELD 2 & hope this fix is what i needed.

IM FUN OF PLAYIN MMO online games..Listen..all of this games have their protection against hacker..its called tracer..game protect..sometimes..when someone send me msg on my msn game crash..so..be sure u turn off everyprogram then run game..it have to work..ur problem is not hardware..and fact that u format ur drive means that u don have any virus problem..so..disabel any real time protection or program..and game will work for sure
