not the best application for the job
try premiere or video vegas or somesuch
but i love AE aswell, so.. you can extend the sound waveform for a visual aid
and then just do RAM previews of sections
it's slow as hell, but it's the best AE can do

you should add a sound controller on the jaw layer, so it moves down when the waveform gets louder
then add a smooth pass to the audio if it's too jittery animated
yea, but they're easy to learn once you get the basics
except that expression fiddling is a bit tricky to get head around at first
and vegas isn't much for animation
i don't even know if you can actually animate anything with it
mostly useful for easy streamlined editing and sound placement, like premiere
