i have 450w psu and 8800gts:) i was woundering if i get another 8800gts, will my psu be enough for 2 8800gts?

I reckon you need at least a 600w PSU, but it also depends on how much other shit you got running in your system.

Minimum for a 8800 GTX in SLI config would be 700W, says so in the manual for my EVGA 680i Mobo. I would go for 800-1000W. Tagan or Enermax would be my best bet.

Power output ratings are the half of it, find out what the 12v rail(s) are rated at on your PSU. I believe a single GTS requires 30A (Correct me if Im wrong) So your probably gonna need a higher end powersupply to run two of those bastards.

im in the same boat... putting together a new system, im eyeing up 2 8800 gtx cards, and pretty much figured its going to need its own power plant just to run the system...

Pc Power & Cooling have some of the best power supplies around and I've yet to see a bad review on them. But to be honest, that GTS will handle anything you can throw at it plus more, by the time your going to need SLI of that card something better will come out and by the time that happens that GTS will be about the price of a 7900GTX,

but thats the thing... pc tech is like that. if ur gonna make urself a good machine u might as well go all out, because theres ALWAYS going to be something 'coming out soon'... so im sticking with my 8800 gtx sli quad core system im putting together.

great... now another problem... lol, do i go with the 8800 gtx... or invest a little more and get the overclocked xxx edition. argh! 2 normal 8800 gtxs', or 2 sli'd 8800 gtx xxx editions... why must choices be so hard!!
i went with the 1000 because power is not one thing i want to be short of, and i do plan for expansion (4 harddrives, maybe water cooling, no idea how many opticals yet...)

pc power & cooling is one of the top companies for PSU's not to mention they've passed nvidias testing.
@chiv personally if you look up benchmarks with video games the GTX doesn't do much better than the GTS. GTS sli would be more practical. But seeing as how GTX sli alone will suffice and spending that money you wont want to upgrade for awile. Get the GTX xxx edition and be done for awile.

sigh. just did a little more digging... the motherboard i was intending to buy, the evga 680i apparently is screwy, you cant overclock the fsb when using it with a quad core... so great... another little f**king problem, now i need to find a new motherboard to buy... maybe asus stryker?

dunno what the stryker is but I know the Asus Crosshair MB is supposed to be effin superb.

Theres been a lot of crap going around about issues with the 680i series. The Striker is a really nice board but like the others it has stability issues.

If your willing to wait, the commando comes out this month I believe. Otherwise save yourself some time and money and grab a high end 965 chipset board. I guess thats a compromise.

i thought crossfire was the equivilant of sli, but not the same thing.
crossfire = ati
sli = nvidia
and i want a 8800 gtx... dont really want to wait 2 or so more months for ati, when i doubt they'll come out with a card that is all THAT much better...

anyway... f**k it. last straw came tonight. i emailed coolermaster about their cases, i emailed evga about their boards. i emailed xfx about their overclocked versions of the 8800 gtx, and i emailed a local online seller about the 832 coolermaster stacker cases... the local guy got back first, saying that he'll have em in, in february.
so i combine that with the problems with finding GOOD motherboards for the quadcore, and the new ati cards coming out around then, and i think to hell with it. i would LOVE an super ultra mega computer now, but everythings screaming at me to wait 2 more months, then go apeshit and buy up large then. so im heavily leaning towards waiting... so unless evga emails me tomrrow saying that they know what the issue is and plan to have a bios update in the next few days, i dunno if ill change my mind... DAMMIT  really wanted that ultra pc soonish... lol.

According to their CES coverage the R600 isn't going to make it until March but either way I personally believe the best decision is to let both Nvidia and ATi lay their cards on the table and go from there.
Nvidia is planning a G80 refresh with GDDR4 to compete with the R600 sometime around its launch. So either way if you bought a 8800GTX now to play some DX9 games that any current high end DX9 card can handle anyway and a whole slew of cards come out Spring that could have been better buys your the one thats gonna be losing.
So wait! Just like I am!

I was reading something on anandtech I think it was that the new ATI gpu is able to do what the physx card was made for.

Yeah that sounds really cool, as far as I know the current 8800 series is capable of Physics processing it just hasn't been implemented in games. Only the Nvidia Tech Demo's show it, like that box of smoke they manipulate in real time and some other crap.
