|
 |
I wanted to install XP on my old PC for my son as he is going to a LAN party tomorrow.
The only hardware I removed from this rig was my old Hard Drives, the rest I never touched.
So what I simply did was to install my son's hard drives (hes old PC) to my (old) PC, the one that I try to install XP on.
OK so far so good.
But!, when I "boot from XP CD" it just sits at the " Set up is checking your hardware configuration" just sits there...
I tried with a different HD, same, I even tried with a different DVD/CD ROM drive, same".
I also reset the BIOS (Even removed and put back the MOBO battery, to be sure)...still same.
Any of you guys have a suggestion here.

Oh man, believe me I have done that since 4 a clock CET, that's about 2 and a half hours by know .
I tried with this HD with that HD, without HD!!! with different DVD/ROM driver...still just stops at the "Set up is checking your hardware configuration".
Just checked if I could read the installation CD on this PC and no problem.
I hope its not the MOBO, but I don't get any errors on boot up or in BIOS. Hell when I start up without the CD it tries to load the "old version of XP" the one on the HD from my sons older PC. It even comes to the log in screen in safe mode...so i don't think its a HW problem....I HOPE!

I never found the source of this issue... It could've been the custom, slip-streamed with patches ISO I was using. I thing it happened alot of times with Feb 06, but didn't happen with April 06, so that might be the problem. Try getting another version.

Yea been thinking about that... But hey I am using a Legit CD here...that's what is peeing me off, used the same 2 weeks ago when installing this rig, no prob then. Crap time is ticking and I wanted to play some BF2 HUHUHU!
Well last resort is to put the crap back in hes ol PC and look at it later, but I hate to leave something unfinished.
EDIT:
I admit DEFEAT!...put the stuff back in his old box PHEW!
I tried all combos believe me, Separate IDE (HD/DVD), Same IDE HD Master/ DVD Slave
Tried different HD's, different DVD/ROM. Even with the "other" version of XP it didn't work so...like Hannibal at Zama I admit defeat...
But I guess there is a day tomorrow...so What was the catch phrase in Galaxy Quest...
oh yea, "Never Give Up, Never Surrender!"
