Okay now not being able to make my mind up on what to get Emma (daughter) for her main present for Xmas. She's just mentioned what she wants. A small motorbike.
My husband (I just rang him) said go get her one.
I'm not too sure. I hate motorbikes. I've known two people which have been killed on them and another who lost his arm when he fell asleep going home.
So she;s 8 shall I get her one.

8 Year old girl on a moterbike? I think you should get a 8-year old something else tbh. I'm sorry i just can make anything up you should get her. Doesnt she plays with dolls or something?

50cc is what my hubby is thinking. She's too old for one of those battery type things.
Shit 8 years old. I feel old now. Shit before long she will bring her first boyfriend home
Give it another 6 years.

I agree, but Daddy says she can get one. I'm looking to be the bad one here. Fucking men.
I've told her she can have one when daddy get's home. He can supervise her. My heart would nbe in my throat if I watched her.
Just three years to go.
I'm going to ger her £400 instead. Fucking hell I wish I had 400 quid when I was eight.

Well personaly 400 quid for a 8 year old is kinda much too. I think when you buy something less it would mean more to her than 400 quid.

Get her the bike and teach her the rules first.
the moments her eyes light up. take her out for a spin. have a blast and then discuss all the things she can and can't do.
Safety first.
Let her know that the moment she does something idiotic you will take it away until she regains your trust with the bike.
You’re not being a bad mother for worrying. But kids don’t see that.

Now seriously,
Jenni, I remember you once said that you were mistreated by you biological mother.
That's the source of the problem, because your mother dissapointed you, you want to be her opposite and try to do everything to prevent you own daughter from getting mad at you, even if it gets to over spoiling her.
Clearly giving your 8 years old daughter a bike or a 400 pounds is simply too much.

Agree with WaldoJ
But also it largely depends on the places she has where she could ride it

I'm not touching this.
But you know what? Every mother and every father out there doesn't want to disappoint their child. Especially when they love their kids.
None of that bull shit.

Christmas is precious when kids know that they're going to get presents from their parents, and not when kids know that they're going to get expensive presents.
This may work this year, but what will she ask for when she will be 12?

Who knows. I mean that's it with kids. Don't wanna spoil em, don't wanna be tight.
Everything I do is to give my kids a better life.
Which is what a parent is supposed to do. Shame my mother didn't. My sister however would disagree.
So would her kids.

Times changes. Just make sure that the children know a max prices/seize on gifts. And once they get over the whole Santa Claus age it gets easier to find presents for them, and then you/they are just happy to have a nice christmas.
So why not spoil them a little once or twice a year when its the perfect time for em, you might never get the chance again. They are only 8 one time you know

Tho at that age, I think, kids don't look at price tags. Even if they do, they won't understand what's really put into getting that amount of money. They just see a bunch of numbers.
Jenni, you sound like you’re raising a pack of reasonable kids.
I think that if you do get her the bike, you won’t have to worry much.
