So I was just reading around the news, and came across this: http://www.techworld.com/opsys/news/index.cfm?newsid=7675

I don't know if I should laugh or cry, but that seriously doesn't sound right. Has anyone that have tried Vista experienced any of this, or is it just bullshit?

its not bullshit, it mainly applys to hd-drm protected content tho.

Alongside the all-or-nothing approach of disabling output, Vista requires that
any interface that provides high-quality output degrade the signal quality
that passes through it if premium content is present. This is done through a
"constrictor" that downgrades the signal to a much lower-quality one, then up-
scales it again back to the original spec, but with a significant loss in
quality.

i like this bit :-

Vista's content protection requires that devices (hardware and software
drivers) set so-called "tilt bits" if they detect anything unusual. For
example if there are unusual voltage fluctuations, maybe some jitter on bus
signals, a slightly funny return code from a function call, a device register
that doesn't contain quite the value that was expected, or anything similar, a
tilt bit gets set. Such occurrences aren't too uncommon in a typical
computer.

sounds a great way to render vista unusable Razz

if you are using non protected content then there is no problem
if you are using legitimate protected content but have no protected outputs then your f**ked
are there any protected audio only outputs? spdif is universal digital audio output but is not protected output
therefore any protected audio cannot be played....
only those who are lucky enough can play protected video content...
suddenly the whole world becomes pirates just to be able to enjoy digital media
those who have just bought their nice all singing all dancing vista media pc & then just bought some protected content has no way to play it....law suits ahoy Wink
am i the only one who see's this madness....think about it MS
