Metal Gear came out and I need to finally move up from DH 0.46 :\

Problem is, I don't know a damn thing about it.. one of you experts care to rescue me?

I have a plain old original 1.5 FW PSP. I have no interest in the custom FW HEN-D or whatever the hell it's called.

Possible to get to DH 0.51 from a plain old 1.5 PSP?

0.51 works but crashes frequently when loading isos and exiting games
still worth it though for support for newer games

good luck on installing it, its not as hard as it looks (got it working on a ta-082)

tested and approved. didn't have a problem following those steps but indeed devhook 0.51 does crash from time to time when entering or exiting games. (pressed home in metal gear port ops and it completely froze, restarted the psp, restarted devhook and i got stuck on the PSP logo when it was suposed to load the 3.01 firmware. restarted the psp and everything worked immediately. waiting for an update Smile)

I used that and can confirm it works perfectly and is very easy to use... Oh yea, 0.51 also emulates 3.02 Smile

Devhook is no upgrade. It's just a "program" that you start as usual homebrew, but then can load up the firmware. If you turn off the PSP and restart, you are back to 1.5

well wow... just... wow... as i said, really didnt want to upgrade from 0.46 because it feels more secure... tried making myself a hybrid 2.71/2.8 firmware for 0.46 and it seems to have worked... sorta... loads up portable ops and played fine (only played a few minutes), but atleast it didnt crash...

just tried running that new star wars game and now it no longer works... hope its the only one...

edit: guess it was just a fluke, lethal alliance is working fine now... so im a happy camper... guess this'll tie me over till the next devhook update...

and i gotta say... portable ops is the NICEST looking game on the system, i honestly didnt know it could be pushed this far, and the system is still capable of more! - this was pretty much the moment the game visually blew me away... just had to take a screen cap

yup Its a nice game but If I was you I would just upgrade to 0.51.0100 as Persoanlly I have had no problems with it at all and it runs all games (Non of this hybrid messing around stuff) Smile

Plus I have my PSP set to auto boot Devhook with 3.02 so when I switch my PSP on, its just like having a 3.02 PSP Very Happy

yeah well... im too much of a chickenshit to update just yet to be honest Very Happy

the psp is finally starting to come into its own with a few excellent games to look forward too... if i brick my psp, thats it... ill never buy another one, so id prefer to play it safe and stick with 0.46 till it doesnt run any of the new games anymore... and THEN ill take the plunge Very Happy

i heard there were issues with the psp crashing on exit for some games... some games not working... corrupt saves... and also that NOT flashing the files (there was a workaround before) was potentially harmfull... has this been changed?

well seen as their is no writing to the flash involved with Devhook (Unless you flash the files to your PSP Flash1 which is optional) then its just as safe as 0.46... So far all the games I have played run perfectly and have no problems with saves / exiting.

So far tried -

Metal Gear Solid
GTA VCS
That Marvel game
Who wants to be a millionaire

and they all played fine, even UMD's.. Plus the anmated Music player visuals are great!!! Very Happy

overall the only problem I have had is If I set Devhook to load say Metal Gear Solid.cso and I then delete Metal Gear from the stick and try and start devhook with it still set to Metal Gear Solid.cso then it will crash but a simple work around for this is to set Devhook to UMD Smile

Also, why not just make a backup of your dh folder and your devhook eboots (in Game) and a backup of your saves to your computer then setup 0.51 and if you dont like it, go back to 0.46 Smile

Not realy since the files are only a few Kb in size... the files you are flashing are just like configuration files

Sorry to jump on this thread, I know I have asked questions before but I'm still not quite sure.

Does this new version devhook mean I can buy a new PSP (for son Christmas) and safely be assured that I can play backups on it with a duo mem card ? And thats all i would need ?

I looked up "gormless" in the dictionary, it said "without gorm" .... so i looked up "gorm" but it wasn't there ????

Yes indeed!

EDIT: Errr.. as long as it isn't 3.02 already you need to be able to run DH in the first place.. so you need like.. 2.7 or something to be able to downgrade or install custom FW.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
