Ok.. just go here and thank me later.
http://www.tversity.com/
go to the Downloads section and you're off to the races. Read up in the forums if you run into any problems or post back here as Ive had plenty and Ill try to answer them.

If you dont have XP Media Center Edition but you want to stream music and movies to your 360, this is the program for you.

I didnt see a Topic about this so I thought I would share.
Cheers!

Yes.. I have gotten MP3s, my buddy's Shoutcast Stream, Divx, XVID with MP3 and AC3 audio... basically I finally got everything running smoothly. I played games all night last night listening to my buddy's radio station. Also, the video is absolutely phenomenal. I hear ya on the bugs.. but its still early.. they are fixing alot of the bugs for the next release. Till then, I am MORE than satisfied.

Here is a copy of my config.xml file that is found in the TVersity folder. Try this and see if it helps. It might not help you get running.. but if you do.. this will give you amazing looking video.
** the "profileID" has been removed .. I dunno what the hell it is and doubt its any Xbox specific number, but I thought Id play it safe.**

<config><contentDirectory name="db/medialib.db" audio="0/1" photo="0/2" video="0/3" online="0/4" sortFolderByFileName="true" prettyTags="true" refreshStartTime="0" refreshInterval="1440"></contentDirectory><playerProfiles name="profiles.xml" profileID="xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx"></playerProfiles><listen port="41952" allowRemoteConnection="false"></listen><transcode when="pprofile" optimize="quality" connectionSpeed="WIRED_HIGH" downsampleForConnectionSpeed="false" audioCompressionRatio="8" videoCompressionRatio="24" disableDecodingClock="true"><maxVideoInfo width="1280" height="720" bitrate="8000000" fps="30"></maxVideoInfo><minVideoInfo width="854" height="480" bitrate="0" fps="24"></minVideoInfo><maxAudioInfo sampleRate="48000" bitsperSample="16" bitrate="320000" nchannels="6"></maxAudioInfo><minAudioInfo sampleRate="32000" bitsperSample="0" bitrate="0" nchannels="1"></minAudioInfo><maxImageInfo width="1280" height="720"></maxImageInfo></transcode><cache maxSize="8192" minSize="3072" timeshiftInterval="45"></cache><service autoStart="true"></service><download maxActive="10" maxBitrate="1000000" feedNewItemCount="2" ProxyHTTP="true"></download></config>

Also make sure you download ALL the files from the download page. FFdshow, Haali, WMP 11, and Windows Media Encode .. etc etc. These are all needed for the Transcode.

If you can get your Xbox to see the TVersity server.. thats the first step.

I might be missing, or probably an missing something. Why would you stream music and movies through your Xbox360 to watch them on whatever you Xbox360 is connected to, when you can just watch them on your monitor or whatever you normally watch it on? Just wondered...

Well... movies transcoded from my PC to my 360 look better than they do streamed to my Xbox with XBMC. My 360 is hooked up to a HDTV and the resolutions I get from TVersity are better than what I get through my Satellite TV. In short, it just looks amazing rivaling the quality I get from my DVD player hooked up through component cables. Though its transcoded down to 2.0 stereo, this is fine with me since I only have 2 old Cerwin Vegas in my bedroom. 5.1 is also partially working now via some decoder tweaking I think, but I read it will be patched into future versions on the forum.

As for music... I have my computer in the other corner of my home. Its down a floor and 2 rooms away. So streaming content to my 360 is nice for me since my computer and my TV/360 arent in the same room. Also... it allows me to save space on my 360 HD and time ripping all my CDs to the HD (hard drive). So now while Im killing you in Rainbow Six Vegas or Call of Duty 3, Im doing it to a custom playlist instead of the canned game music. Playing Geometry Wars Evolved to some hardcore techno or even Radiohead is a sublime experience. To me, music is a HUGE reason to get a stream going. Movies is just icing on the cake.

Also, for even better quality video, change this line
<minVideoInfo width="854" height="480" bitrate="0" fps="24"></minVideoInfo>
to
<minVideoInfo width="1280" height="720" bitrate="0" fps="24"></minVideoInfo>
*Note: this requires either a decent rig and some patience as youll have to start a movie and then back out of it to the main menu and let it sit for a few minutes or pause the movie as soon as it starts, or a monster fucking rig that can do it on-the-fly. I just let it sit and get buffered ahead since the transcode continues on your PC for you to resume. Also, as of this time, FF and REW dont work on transcoded movies until after it has been watched all the way through. Then it can be restarted and FF/REW will work. It does work if you are playing WMV files though, as this is the only supported codec on the 360 and it doesnt need to be transcoded, just streamed. Good luck all!!!
