Change the image.iso back to image.000 in the .dvd file.
What you did should work I think. So long as you have the same name for the image and the dvd file and also the dvd file points to the right image name, should work fine.

Hmmm it sounds like to me that the first attempt didnt work because the .dvd said image.iso in it? Obviously when you rename the image.000 to image.iso the information in the .dvd file would be correct which is why the 2nd burn was successful?
