There is a video on the net showing the Wii remote working by using candles. The sensor bar is just a bunch of LEDs that the Wii remote sees and uses for triangulation.

I realy want a go with the wii remote... Say a few videos of it flying out of peoples hands while playing Razz... Someone smashed their window as well with one flying from them Very Happy

As you can see from the above video you don't exactly "Need" the wii's sensor bar. You can easily use two candles instead, because, you know, that is an obvious alternative.

If you're interested in the science of it, the bar actually only emits IR from two points. Provided you have two candles handy the heat IR would work as a replacement.

Personally, I think it just sets the mood for a more spectacular show when you throw your Wii Remote into the TV.
