C,mon we were all new at this once. Give the guy a break.
Janmincev, in all honesty we don't know. These things take time. We just have to leave it up to the people that like to find out these things. Like electronics experts and amateurs alike. They just need the time to pull the new machine apart. And believe me it's already started. From what I've seen so far, the machine looks very easy to modify. But I could be wrong. Being easy to take apart, doesn't translate into being easy to crack any protection systems.

I'm going to unlock this thread. Give the guy a chance. I think he's asked a relevant question. Although he's asked it clumsily.

I also think that we should collate any info that's been found out in this thread on how the hacking goes.

Heres my contribution on that front.

Hey all

The PS3 is out. Could this be the pirates box of choice, like the XBOX 1?

What we know so far:

* The PS3 has the option to run "Other OS". Could this be the portal to exploits, like the TIFF PSP exploit?

No, but DVD's perhaps ? Very Happy

Quick question to anyone who may know (older people probably)

Has there ever been a console system released - that within 1-2 years of its release has not been hacked, modded or worked around in some way?

Pretty sure I wasn't playing backup cartridges on the SNES or Megadrive...lol. So I guess it's only a question for consoles which use a media we can write on. CD/DVD/Disk/tape etc.

Firmware updates can be downloaded and burnt for use in the PS3.

All someone has to do is crack that, and make their own firmware version that can read unsigned games and apps ....... and the PS3 is well and truly pirate city.

Xbox360 updates cannot be downloaded, except over xbox live. Sony have given them Linux out of the box, the ability to run homebrew and apps and even provide the firmware, ready for downloading.

I must be missing something, because the PS3 appears to be the ultimate hack box.

Just watched the mame vid, looks promising, but let's not forget atm a Blu Ray Burner costs upwards of $600 and blank discs run $25 a piece. So even if it is cracked in the near future it will cost the price of a second PS3 to take advantage of it. Given the games cost $70(?) my plan is to save my money and purchase games untill the burners drops in price.

Alternatively it'ed be great if these games could be booted from your pc's hd ala the GC. To be honest though none of the launch titles interest me so i don't think i'll be strung out to own a PS3 anytime soon.

There were devices which let you play the games from 3.5" disks.

yeah, right.... Just like the psp!
They tried the firmware update shit on the psp and it's more hacked than windows Razz
Hope it goes as well in the PS3 as it was with the PSP :
-custom firmware!!!
-all(or almost?) game isos running better than the originals (faster from memory card) and with selectable clock speed.
-Less batery consumption with no umd.

Smile
