I am trying to get AC3 to MP3 on my XVID video file. I can get it to go to MP3 on Virtual Dub but it wont let me save over 56kbps and thats too low of quality to enjoy. Does anyone know how to get it from AC3 to MP3 in around 160kbps or so?

Ok well I loaded the XVID directly into besweet and when I click go in the wizard it just pops up with a log file with nothing in it.

AC3 pws mp3 in terms of quality, if you feel the volume is too low you should get ac3filter, that way you can add gain for ac3 audio only.
If you absolutely must change the audio I suggest using ogg or aac, mp3 just sucks imo.

use besweet and besweetgui!

my settings for mp3: (if your interested)

Setup Screens:
Besweet - ac3 decoder, compress dynamic range, hybrid gain
Lame 2 - use vbr (new routine) 112~160

besweet really makes no sense. Im not sure how to add an avi file... can I even do that or do I have to use virtualdub to pull the sound off the avi then reconvert it and then put it back onto the video file? I am thoroughly confused.

you will have to use virtualdub to rip the audio, rename the .wav that is extracted to .ac3 - load that .ac3 into besweet and convert to mp3.

my sudgestion: open the vid up with nandub and save the video as is, no audio. open the video file that you just saved with nandub, select direct stream copy for video and audio, select your mp3 file and then do a final save.

virtual dub can extract directly to ac3... dont need to confuse him with renaming extentions Very Happy

and you dont need to save the video without the audio first... thats just creating an unneeded additional step. just load up the movie in nandub, go to audio, select mp3 source and add the mp3 stream, then using direct stream copy, save the finished avi. easy weasels.

ps: the questions as to why chose ac3 over mp3? space. sometimes movies just arent worth the additional 300mb that the ac3 takes up over mp3 audio... and other times you might just want to use it on a system without needing to install the ac3 filter... or maybe you just want 2 channel over 5.1... who knows.. lots of reasons, but i always chose ac3 where i can, especially for action or sci-fi'ey films!! makes em really kick ass on a 7.1 setup!!

lol, yeah i suffer from a bad case of OCD when it comes to video... Very Happy anyways, my bad on the extra step. hope this discussion has helped you, the "topic started" that is.
