This kind of blew my mind (but I see why both Intel and AMD would want to work together).

snippet:

We checked the weather this morning and sure enough, Hell hasn't frozen over. Instead, something even less likely happened today—Intel announced it is working with rival AMD to build a new Core processor with custom Radeon graphics inside the chip package, with an emphasis on gaming performance.

The reason the competitors are working together is simple; Intel can't make a useful onboard-GPU for their lives. AMD can. AMD want to sell GPU's. Equals profit for both.

Great way for AMD to create some mindshare and get better AMD optimization in games.

Seeing how AMD shaked with Ryzen intel´s market, its better be friends with them Laughing... Was hilarious while ago intel was laughing to "glued" AMD processors, now they glue amd GPU to their own CPU and its fine Cool Face

Pretty hilarious also how kyle from hardocp rumored this would happen back in december and got tons of shit for it Razz

But yeah, nderpia is killing it on the mobile GPU scene and I guess this will lead to proper competition and even better performance from either side, so good news.

yep those rumors were around since a long time, and its finally clear: without intels money amd would be already dead

amd had no other chance than accept those deals and intel does not need to waste resources on igpus research and development. in other works: this only makes intel even stronger. and i dunno if amd really wanted to have such kind of partnershipt, i honstely doubt that

We really need some fight... it would be perfect if there was a third player too. Shame voodoo is bought by nvidia Laughing

Although all said - It's nvidia usually pushing the market and then amd adapting... nvidia figured out gsync and amd copied as freesync... and now fucking nvidia wont support it.

If because of this, Intel GPU will have better drivers then good news for graphics programmers.

ugghhh. I like Intel and Nvidia. Not AMD!! Well, I dont care about onboard video chips. Gaming on laptops (or any mobile device) seems pointless to me. Ill stick with custom built desktops intel + separate nvidia chip..until something else better comes along. Now off to upgrading my desktop from Windows 10 (horrible) back to Windows 7 so I can play COD and Wolfenstein..Like the way it was meant to be played!

I don't know why you say that, but from what I know Intel has better and more open drivers than Nvidia & AMD, especially cross platform.

Are you sure you're not talking about performance or uncommon hardware?

I'm saying that based on some developers' and users' experience with OpenGL, with Intel drivers.
Case 1:
The developer of Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition had to rewrite their legacy OpenGL based rendering code to support Intel drivers in laptops. Something they didn't have to do for Nvidia drivers at all.
Case 2:
I remember some users in this forum experiencing glitches in their laptop Intel GPUs in Wolfenstein: The New Order which uses OpenGL.

Never been a Intel GPU user myself.

Some leaked shots of the AMD GPU + INTEL CPU package, looks like some Mac Mini motherboard.

Fun fact: Back in 80486 days, Vesa Local Bus (VBL) days was essentially tying the VGA directly to CPU's address bus, accessing VGA memory and registers as if it was RAM (similarly to how most systems on chip work today).

You do know the difference between drivers quality and openness versus the support of a particular graphics library in a particular game, right?

I just want better OpenGL support in general, for all. That's all.

@paxsali,

Right you are. Didn't put it well into words, at first.
