i simply love my transcode 360. the video quality is not that bad if the source video is of good quality. I am now able to watch all the tvrips and dvdrips in HD quality with subtitles.

Yep Xploder just take the same idea, but try and charge money for it instead. Transcode 360 is better and free. Even streams DVD images.

The question is, do you need MCE for Xploder?

Yeah, you still need MCE for now. Sucks until they figure out a way to plug in the streaming code into windows media connect. I'm sure it's possible now that MS have made video playback available in the latest update. Just a matter of time I guess.

Not if you want to watch high definition transport streams... and x264 handling is shoddy. Still, you can't get much better than XBMC if all you need is divx and xvid.

Nope bit of a pain that but i'm sure they will sort that...I'll have to give Transcode360 a whirl to see if its any better..

I'm loving it, the only issue is having to press more.. transcode.. etc.. Would be nice if they could implement it as a more natural feature..

How much of a quality downgrade is it?
I still use my old Xbox with XBMC for my streaming to my home theater. I can stream HD content perfectly.
Will i notice a significant quality downgrade vs XBMC ?

I don't know about XBMC as I have never used it (although if you really care I could pop to my friends house.. he makes and sells them lol).. However I didn't notice any real quality difference using the 360 vs on my actual PC.. Me and the guys in my house watched a none HD movie and a few eps of some HD tv shows and they where all perfectly fine!
