Easiest way would be to buy a TV card for your PC ... they usually come with capture tools. After capturing you need to encode the video and audio, virtualdub is a good freeware program for doing that. Check www.doom9.org for further details.

I didn't tell him to buy a capture card, I told him to buy a TV card. And those often do have tools like software vcrs or simple capture tools which read the video stream from the card directly or from the video in socket.

oh i see...and a TV card isn't a capture card? all capture cards have software delivered in the same package, or will you write the software to use the card u just bought yourself?

If you want good quality you'll have to encode on hardware, not on crappy software algorythms. the "Easiest" way is often far from the best.

Hrmpf. Of course a TV card is a capture card. In fact it is a capture card with a TV tuner. I know there are cards designed for capturing any video source and hardware encoding. But do you seriously think SkylineGTR had that in mind?
About "crappy" software algorithms: Thread starter clearly asked how to get TV shows into any "major" format. Wouldnt you think a complete studio setup with HDR and stuff would be a little bit of an overkill? If he doesnt have digital TV of some kind it certainly is. A TV card and virtualdub is a quite easy to use and the quality for sure is good enough. It's not that he wants to master DVDs or something ...

DeepRed why confuse things...?...I understood what he meant and i'm sure Skyline will too..so theres no need to confuse something that was explained in the best possible manner.

A TV card is what he needs..

Phluxed, not all are blessed to have cash upwards of a few hundred for a TV card.
For those looking to save some cash, I'd recommend the
Leadtek WinFast TV2000 XP.
