Its metal which incorporates elements of folk music...
Eg, Ensiferum plays death/black metal with Finnish folk melodies
Finntroll plays black metal with humppa
Very interesting genre, one of my favorites too!
Try this song called Trollhammeran by Finntroll, awesome stuff! Very Happy

as i see it thrash/speed is a perfect blend of punk and metal, so no doubt thats the best genre wise.

I don't know in which category the bands I hear fall...

Children of Bodom, Tristania, Theater of Tragedy, Cryhavoc. Other classic like Metallica oldies, Dream Theater progressive, Ramstein(if you can call them a metal band).
