I just found out(probably last of u all) that a modchip is underway for the xbox360.
Does anybody know anything about the fractal modchip? Is it worth it? Doesn't seem so much = only around 40 $.Is it safe to install on my own?

banhammer means until Microsoft do something about the firmware hack which may be in Novembers update fort he console (but no-one knows if this will happen 100%)

if its a USA console and your using it in EU then you'll have to use USA Region games be if you flash the drive or not as the firmware hack doesn't bypass region cosing unlike a modchip would, and seeing their is no modchip (as the ones out now are just firmware hacks not true bypass security modchips) then your gonna be stuck using USA games and the odd multi-region gams that are available, if you have access to group releases of these games that get posted to the internet and right gear to burn them to Dual Layer Discs and the right pc setup or the executer connectivity kit to flash your drive then this may not be a issue for you

And the MS update on the xbox this novemeber is support for 1080p right?

But if you are running firmware hack you don't need to DL the upgrade right? Last time they did a upgrade on the dashboard you could choose to upgrade or not. So if you have a 720p TV or projector you should be safe.. Correct me if I'm wrong

You dont need to upgrade but if you dont you'll be disconnected from live until you upgrade (this includes marketplace, and everything on live). Then all new games after november will force you to upgrade when you insert the disc or you cant play them.

So pretty much its a forced upgrade.

Fact or assumption? I don't think anything is fact right now, we don't know what is going to happen.

LOL . Forced upgrades make me mad!!!
Thank u mcmanic.I already downloaded Xtreme firmware 3.3 for TS-H943 Xbox 360 and GaryOPA - Xtreme v1.3 firmware - Hitachi 7in1 - v32/v36/v40/v46/v47/v58/v59. Are those versions the latest versions on the market and do they cover all available drives for the XBox 360?Where could i find a picture with a samsung and a hitachi so that i could make a diffrence.About the connectivity kit.Do i really need it or could i just try to open the box and connect the drive to a pc?
What should i use to burn images?I mean i have an asus dvdwriter that burns dual layer but for the part with the program?
Sorry for so many questions!TKS

about how to burn the games...well some burners work with some discs. you'll just have to try. a proven solution is a Pioneer 111D with Verbatim discs, although I heard it works fine with ritek or memorex too, depends on mediacode and your xbox's drive. As for the application, I'd say clonecd.

and to stay on topic, the fractal360 is another firmware mod just like the NME but second generation, so...does the same thing a little better.

Yep, if you don't upgrade your firmware then you won't be able to play the latest games like what has happened with last dashboard upgrade. Certain games (not all) required that the dashboard was upto date and if not it would do it from the disc before you could play (which cannot be modified or ripped out from the ripped version as it changes the digital signature which is still required)

Hmm, I am planning to get my 360 chipped with the NME-chip. If i understand correctly and MS is making an dashboard update in November some new games might only work on the new dashboard (even if played offline) so the mod chip gets useless?

No because Microsoft makes money with the games, not with the hardware. The hardware is even subsidized, they make profits with the license fee they get from every copy of a game sold.

I think the rumours are bollox ! If it were possible to stop things by upgrades from MS then they wouldnt be fukin around making hardware changes like they are now on the new drives:

I'm sure the most harsh thing MS could ever do is block pirated games from Live, which is fine by me and by most people who hacked their 360.
Me, I prefer games for free , without MP.

I don't think a a total ban would happen...

most likely ban from live when hacked firmware detected and no dashboard update if firmware is hacked.... then all games after dash update will need the update.... i am waiting for nov before risking my 360... would be nasty if i couldn't play GoW or Forza2 due to firmware hack....
hopefully a firmware mod that patches on the fly might be the way to go....this is why ms has brought the new dvd drive out, a ton of glue & no patch points = no firmware mod
time will tell... am sure that the firmware hacking guys will counter MS' efforts...

i doubt M$ can detect a fw flash, any feature like that could probably be linked to breaking privacy laws.i think the real reply is not a dashboard update.
but the future drives
