E-Golf
136hp
200km realistic range
1h rapid charge - 36kWh - 8eur
33k eur starting price
400eur for 10k km fuel only

Golf GTI
245hp
600km realistic range - 12l/100
5min fill up - 50l - 75eur
30k eur starting price
1250eur for 10k km fuel only

this is excluding car servicing every 60k km for 500eur
and any "bonuses" gov's give for electric vehicles

is it worth it, to gimp your car and your trips, to drive an electric car for 600eur less per 10k km?
how many kms do you need to drive, to get on the plus side, of paying more up front for an electric vehicle?

p.s: I drive 10k km each year

isnt worth it as main car, as second vehicle for the city only its a fun toy. but thats it, no climate blabla. it takes about 40-100km driven (depends on the model) kilometers in a regular car to produce the co2 thats needed to produce only the battery in an e-car

if you have the money and want some fun with it a second car, go for it. if you want it as main car be aware that you wont be able to do longer trips in it without many time consumpting stops (even with a tesla with more than double of the distance of the egolf, btw 200km isnt realistic too unless you drive like a 80 year old. with normal driving its about 140km distance)

Politics has a lot to say.

There is an extreme amount of Teslas in Norway because they are pretty much tax free (about the same price as back in the US) znd can use the taxi/bus lane, free parking, half price on ferries, free toll roads and so on.

Sweden, Denmark and so on doesn't have the same politics...and ill stick with gasoline until I don't have to anymore...

And how electric cars perform in winters? Potentialy they should have shorter range.

Dunno what policies Sweden has... but there sure are a lot of Tesla's around here as well.

Yeah, I'm curious how they work in -35 and below. Every winter regular car batteries die left, right and center around here.

Unless you have solar panels at home, it doesn't make much sense.

Yeah, it's definitely not doable nor convenient in any way (yet) here either. It doesn't help that we're ~15-20 years behind the North EU's standards in terms of infrastructures/charging stations, incentives and mentality. Hopefully things will improve a bit if the government doesn't miserably commit seppuku (again)..maybe Razz

As a owner of both, I guess I can comment on this;
(actualy not owner of the EV, but its my company car which I use free as much as i want where i want).

Private car is a 2012 Audi A6 2.0 TDI 200hp
Company car is a 2019 Renault Zoe

When it comes to costs, EVs are usually a fuckton cheaper (here in norway), since they're mostly tax free. Taxes and various fees can be up to 2/3rd of a cars cost here.
In comparison a new Tesla S is about the same price as a Audi A6, while in other countries the A6 would be approx half (?) the price.

EVs can use bus/taxi lanes, so theres that in rush hour.
EVs pay nothing (somewhere half price) in toll booths. And theres a FUCKLOAD of them in Norway.
EVs pay half price on ferries. Used to be free.

Back when I used my Audi for driving to work, it cost me approx 150 EUR/month in fuel and 150 EUR/month in road toll.
I don't pay shit for anything for the zoe since its a company car, but the costs are 0 NOK/month in fuel and ~70 EUR/month in road toll.

Charging is done at the company. The electricity a car takes is so minimal, there was no noticable difference to electricity usage at all at work, which is why I wrote 0 EUR. And we got 3 of those cars.
Some of my coworkers charge at home, and price for charging at home is somewhere around 2-3 EUR for a full charge. Something a regular EV user does 1-2 times a week or less.
From what I can see, many/most work places offer EV charging at the company parkinglot.

And as StrEagle wrote, rapid charging is an option, but its not something that needs to be done.
Most EVs got a range of 3-500km, and only time you drive that far is if you're on vacation or something.
All shopping malls, hospitals, public parking lots and similar offers chargers too, so you can just plug in regular charger while you're doing whatever the fuck you're doing. Charging stations are EVERYWHERE. You cant really drive more than 15 min without finding one.

Public charging costs ~0.1EUR/min + ~0.29EUR/kWh for rapid charging, and 0.01 EUR/min for + 0.25EUR/kWh for regular charging.
Different prices with different companies.
Some places you pay one price no matter how much you charge.
Some places you only pay for minutes.
For Teslas you only pay 0.17EUR/Min, and no cost for kWh.

When it comes to my preferences, the only EV i've tried is a ZOE, which is a cheap french budget car. Thats a double negative. French and budget car.
I can't really compare it to my Audi in any way, but I would offcourse take a diesel car over a EV anytime if I replace my Audi. That sound and feeling of a proper engine is a great feeling if you like cars.
The silence in an EV is great if you want silence.. Also one fun part about EV is the power/torque. Full torque from 1rpm, so you get that nice kick there. Even in a tiny shitty french pos.

But I got this Zoe company car to use 24/7, so Audi is just collecting dust while I use the baguette as much as I can to save money.

Also for winter, I guess I have to come back with that information in a few months.
But from what I've heard from other Zoe users, is that range drops from the regular 300km to around 200km at lowest when it's -10 or colder.
It got a parking heater which also heats the batteries, so its not too bad.

I hate you.
