|
 |
I just built a new comp and am having a weird power on problem. When I switch the power button, the fans come alive, all the lights switch on but the damn thing doesn't boot up. I have to always hit the power button then the reset button for it to boot up. What's even stranger is I've fiddled around with the power/reset button switches but to no avail. Even when I use wake on lan the same thing happens. All the fans come on, lights but doesn't boot until I press restart.
Any ideas?

Can we get the specs of the system, this could be an ATX issue or a simple PSU issue..

Asus A8V-VM
AMD (Venice) Athlon 64Bit 3000
350W PSU
Thanks for the reply guys. It's a 20pin PSU in a 24pin motherboard though, so maybe that's it. But the power is fine since after you hit the restart switch it's completely normal.

I'm surprised it's even working. I know 24pin PSU's are working with older 20pin boards, but the other way around. Does the manual of the board say anthing about this case?

350w is a little low if you have a high end video card and/or using lots of usb stuff, hd's...

Ooops shoulda said, on board video, no PCI cards, one hard-drive. The actual Watts isn't an issue I think. It's gotta be the 24pin/20pin.

nah youre right. for that setup 350w should be enough. i agree then, the issue lies within the pins

the other 4pins are for the ATX, eg. The power management.. This is 100% the issue I am certain of it.

The 4 extra pins are to supply extra current to the USB bus and pci-e slot. So if you overload your usb bus you might run into problems.
So Noob, maybe not enough current can be supplied all at once to boot your pc.
Also some boards split the 12v rail with the 24 pin connector. I don't know whether this has any bearing on it.
