Quote:

Two Brothers is an Action Adventure game that features a classic Gameboy aesthetic.
You play the role of Roy and Bivare guarder, two scientists who are researching the origins of life.
While researching, Roy is met with a terrible fate, and has a near death experience. While Roy is on the other side of death, he visits an afterlife filled with beautiful 16 bit colors. Now that he has experienced this visual glory, he becomes obsessed with bringing the colors from the afterlife in to his mono chromatic world.

*Explore a vast non-linear world and story with multiple endings, and deep side quests!
*Take the game world from black and white 8bit to full color 16bit!

What makes Two Brothers unique:
Two Brothers takes a long hard look at death in video games... when the player is killed in combat or triggers a deadly trap, instead of being greeted a familiar GAMEOVER screen, the player finds himself in what we call the ""Afterlife Hub"".

This realm of the dead is a colorful and mysterious place where the player can explore, find clues, and interact with characters who have passed on in the games story... sometimes even bringing some of them back from the dead.

When the player wants to return to gameplay, they can jump from the edge of the heavens and get back in to the action and exploration!

This mechanic is vital to the gameplay, as sometimes interacting with the dead is just as important as interacting with the living... this feature often requires the player intentionally ending their session in a game over, just to cross over to the other side.

They had a Kickstarter last year and it was successful in September 2012, raising $16k after seeking $6k and I think this looks incredible, really unique and it's tickling my nostalgia buds something fierce Very Happy Just released on GamersGate and Greenlit for Steam last month but nothing on the main storefront yet. Not "rls" either but I'm hoping for one soon ^_^ (don't you judge me Sad)

Got it earlier from Gamersgate (Purchased it months ago.) haven't played much so far but it seems like a interesting little game. Smile

No protection either and somehow the game is ~500 MB and the sountrack is ~900 MB. Razz
(Soundtrack being a bonus for a deluxe version of the game and that also includes a prequel comic which is a 12 MB PDF.)

EDIT:

(Yes these are thumbnails but that's also nearly the actual size of the screen in windowed mode.)

Has anyone gotten the TiNYiSO one to work? I've grabbed two different copies of it now and both times it throws a CRC error during install.

Got mine from SCC.

Well the one on Usenet is broken, downloaded it twice to be sure, same goes with the one on KAT. I'm grabbing a single-RAR release from some shitty filehost now and I'll test that one too.

Yup! It's a 560MB .exe installer and it CRC errors out midway through install >:[ I've tried half a dozen different versions now, all exactly the same result; CRC error. The BIN/CUE is simply bad, that's the only explanation Sad

Use this:
http://innounp.sourceforge.net/
I'm pretty sure it is Inno packer and if the file is really damaged the unpacker will show it.

UPD: just a suggestion I don't have nor the game nor scene release.

That's what I used on the legit version so it should work.
(Albeit I did it via the Universal Extractor program but it's the same only with drag & drop instead of command line arguments. Razz )

The game is just a single 550 MB exe anyway so the installer isn't really needed.
(Though I unpack everything this way, if needed the script file will show if any registry entries or additional folders need to be created.)

Yeah, same here. Too bad some installer are cheeky shareware crap that always has some shitty protection and updates almost every week so any extractors are useless because nobody (people who wrote first version of unpackers) will be keeping up with that crap. Perfect tactic.

Thanks anyhow Kein, but JB is right: this time it's a single 550MB game .EXE, nothing to extract Sad I thought it was at first but it turns out the "install" is literally just copying the game to your specified folder. I managed to get a DRM-free standalone no-BIN/CUE and that one works perfectly but there's no instructions and the window is tiny - as JB showed above - you can stretch it by grabbing the corners of the window, but there HAS to be a better way :\

Nope Sad None of the F keys either. The game mentions pressing ~ for 320x240 mode but the key doesn't do anything, so the only option is to grab the edge of the window and drag - which destroys the AR if you're not pixel-perfect.

Weird.

alt+enter / ~, both seem to be working.

640 x 480px.

Neither work for me >:[ ALT-ENTER doesn't do anything and nor pressing the only key on my Norwegian-layout keyboard with the ~ symbol on it (press the key next to 1 which is | doesn't do anything either) - I even tried using the goddamn OSK, still nothing.

~edit~

Okay, NOW alt-enter works Still no tilde functionality though. Thanks anyhow!

Looks like it doesn't recognize Norwegian layout. (just tried it).
(at least the tilde key)

Try on-screen keyboard with USA international layout. It seem to be working. Smile

Nah, that requires switching keyboard layouts and it's not *that* important. Thanks though, I'll just stick with full screen Smile

Tilde just switches from windowed to fullscreen and back again here, if a Swedish keyboard is similar to a Norwegian one then the input key would probably be next to P or L instead.
(With a Swedish input layout it's the Ö key.)

(I have both US and Swedish layouts at the moment WinKey+Spacebar shifts between them without too much problem, I mainly use the US one but for writing and such in Swedish which requires the Å, Ä and Ö letters I switch over to Swedish.)

EDIT: SRWE could work though. Smile
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=55482124&postcount=71

Used for downsampling in windowed mode in that guide but the program should be able to hook to this exe and enforce a specific resolution.
(4:3 aspect ratio I guess, 320x240 up to 1024x768 or 1600x1200 maybe? But that would probably make the game quite pixelated.)

Sigh... I think my game is broken :\ It started when you first go to the afterlife, you can walk outside most boundaries - like walking on air rather than the obvious cloud paths. Now it's doing it again when I went into a cave, I'm walking around in the black area and unable to get into the cave path itself Neutral Thanks for the SRWE, JB, but I'm okay running it full screen.

~edit~

Yup... cave is broken >_< Seems a lot of people are having various issues with boundaries and placement in various areas around the game, devs said they're working on a patch.

~edit~

^^ dat porno music with random whip sounds and "Oh baby!"

Hmm it was delayed once or twice already and there's still a few issues even so, that's unfortunate but it sounds good that they are already working on a update to resolve those problems. Smile

Man, no offence to the developers or anything.. but this REALLY wasn't tested before it was released Neutral There's a *lot* of pathing issues, not to mention game-skipping issues where you can actually be caught/trapped outside of the game. I've also encountered a bug that has trapped me on the other side of the East Bridge. I saw a Bay south of the bridge but wanted to explore first, so I took the EAST entrance on the bridge and the game said "I need to speak to Prof Ulu in the North, first" before dumping me on the WEST bank and it won't let me go back.

This needs a lot more QA before it's ready for release, if you ask me :\

~edit~

If you buy and equip a boomerang, you lose your sword Facepalm

~edit~

Die, walk off the edge of the "floating continent" rather than talking to the old man and being sent back, got stuck in "the Northern Plains" with nothing to do, nowhere to go, just a small plains area and then open blackness surrounding it. I'm done, the game is far far far from finished and needs some MAJOR QA testing. It looks like it will be a really good game but I'm going to wait until I have some money and pick it up when everything has been tidied and fixed -- oh and RUN BUTTON, game definitely needs one Very Happy
