Would like to know your experience with soundcards, if any.
I'm looking to upgrade my inbuilt AC97 nVidia as it only has 3 ports. It shares the microphone port with the rear speaker port. So when playing online with surround sound I can't talk Sad

Simply looking for good 5.1 surround sound for a good price.

Would be good to hear ppls opinions regardless. Is there a big diff between cards? The X-Fi thread was a good read but that sounds like overkill imo, especially if only needed for games.
Cheers all Smile

Personally I would never trust any USB sound card, sounds fishy to me.. And why no creative x-fi? God I love my XtremeMusic! Best damn soundcard I ever bought and worth every penny IMO!

Bloody creative. I do agree they're currently being total shits when it comes to driver support. Lets not forget that the soundblaster series was the best supported (as far as number of OS's it worked on) card you could buy. I'm sure the X-FI will head the same way in time, just gonna take a while for them to calm down after releasing it, let some information get out about the newer tech to other companies and support will be fine.

I'm currently waiting for linux drivers!

i'd pick a X-Fi music. Or if you want something more the Fatal1ty edition(but it's rather expensive)
I've got one of these and the sound is really amazing (especially with headphones). And actually it would suprise me that they won't work under Vista, because they are like a year old.

software mode will work - the crap one , but not the hardware mode - with HD sounds , eax and other shit becoz drivers from creative are on the same level as the win core , and in Vista the hole comunications from one level to the other will be made by Direct-x10 so if they fuck up , directx will not let you hear no advanced sounds without Billy G. blesing , becoz the new vista drivers must be Piss blesed by Billy , so no home drivers like in winxp , the same goes with SF , it must be blesed by Billy (read $$$$) - NOW thats a money making system
