Beckham will be back. Mcclaren is a dick for dropping him. He was more of a scapegoat so he can stamp his authority down on a new regime than him being bad. Can you honestly say he's worse than Jenas downing or SWP? No clearly not. After the greece opener unless Gerrard (if he plays on the right) and lampard both have amazin games he will be back and will make his 100th appearance (which he deserves).

As for that penalty the ball clearly rolls away when he puts his left foot down. The ref was terrible and should have moved to the other end of the stadium after a few of those kicks because it was just a sand heap. Portugal just tapped it down the middle for most of theirs.

If you wanna see a good penalty see the argentina one (imagine the pressure on his shoulders then) or De Rossi's penalty in this years world cup final.

I dont think penalty shots are fair, in any sport.
Things should continue in sudden death till someone scores a goal...fuck the shootouts

I like them. Golden goal is a cruel way out whereas penalty shootouts are a real test of nerve (with a bit of luck).

Yeah, but it seems like less talent and it puts the blame on only a couple of people.
If your going to lose or win, do it as a team you know?

You play 120 minutes with all your heart and then lose because your goalie when right rather than left? Thats not fair to neither the goalie nor the players.
Atleast if you keep playing, its a team effort and no one man is to blame

Imagine if you missed the last penalty kick in the world cup game...horrible

But that's the whole point. Only those with a bit of luck and the nerve can win penalty shoot outs. Playing on would be ok, but it's really impractical. If they want to change the rules then they should allow further substitutions after 105 minutes or something.

most football fans prefer them though and they're not that frequent really.

No you can make 3 during the whole game (unless its a friendly). Doesn't matter if you play for 90 minutes or 120. It's only 3.

thats retarded.

Should be more like basketball. Or football or any sport for that matter. You can make unlimited subs in football, hockey, basketball and baseball.

Just face it, beckham is not good anymore. Hes out. Capput. BAD.

There are better players out there that might get the chance to step forward and show what they can do now.

Beckham is out because a) he's no longer good enough, & b) England can focus on being a TEAM not dominated by one individual.

The score wasn't influenced by the midfield though it was mostly poor greek defending. In the 2nd half you saw how good they were and probably deserved a goal if it wasn't for cole clearing off the line a few times they would have got one too.

Beckham Hargreaves Gerrard and Cole would be a much better midfield. Take beckham off and throw aaron lennon on. take gerrard off and put lampard on. Take cole off and put downing on and take hargreaves off and put carrick on. It's a perfect balance really.

Beckham is still a great player and the team is about pace etc. etc. but beckham has never had it because he doesn't need to beat his man. He can ping the balls in before that. He was dropped because of media pressure more than anything but if anyone needs to go it's lampard. When he's forced out of the chelsea first team (hopefully very soon) mcClaren won't play him becuase he's crap and anonymous barring a few deflections.

Beckham didn't control the team like Zidane did. He practically picked the french squad whereas beckham was just a figurehead. If you look at his world cup (1 goal and 2 assists) its much better than most other people and especially Lampard (25 shots 0 goals 0 assists)

O and I bet you Beckham will be playing within the next two england matches. Mark my words.
