Hi all
I am going to start saving all of my dvd's to hard drive and I would like to know what the easiest way to convert them to avi is. I started to dabble with auto gk but when the file is finished it doesnt play plus when i preview what i am about to convert I get no audio. I am new to this whole thing so im sorry if this is a repetitive question. Anyway I have several hundred movies and I would like to get them sized down to about 950mb each. Any help would be great. thanks.

AutoGK is your best bet, it's about the best thing for new users. And the preview on it is only for video, and the audio is usually 128-bit VBR MP3. And if you couldn't play the video back, get Media Player Classic and the latest XviD/DivX binaries. (Look on koepi.org for XviD).

EDIT: Try looking for guides and such on doom9.org

Wow that was a real insight full link, really helped out my cause alot.

Whatever!!

I did try to GOOGLE it and when i did all I got was a bunch of crapware ads that wanted me to buy there product 4 30$. Not interested. All I wanted to know from users that have done this type of conversion 4 awhile is the method which they preferred the most and maybe some tidbits on where some good tuts are. So those of u who think that u r funny by linking me to some bullcrap, u can save 4 some1 else.

Anyway, this is the process that I have been trying without success. Has any body had good results trying this method.

1. decrypt movie to harddrive
2. use dvd shrink to isolate just the movie
3. use autogk to shrink the DVD Shrink version to about 950mb.

I tried this and like i said No Pic. I will try to use knives217 sugestion with Media Player Classic and see if that solves the problem. I usually use VLC which has had good results on alot of other formats.

What you need to use to get just the movie VOBs onto your HDD is robot4rip, it also will Index/Demux the streams, get the subtitles, and encode the audio. But if you use AutoGK, you would just need to do the "PCG Rip" option.

Well I just wanted to say thanks 4 the help. I tried 2 different programs other than autogk and they were of course crap. Autogk does the job nice and I figured out what it was that I was doing wrong. My (NooB) mistake was trying to open the wrong output file and that was why I was not getting my video. Anyway I decided to stick with VLC media player, but windows media player classic is a good alternative. VLC includes support 4 my Xbox 360 thus my decision to stick with it. Thanks again 4 all of the help. Now begens the fun of converting over 200 movies. @ about 3-4 hours apiece I should be busy 4 awhile.
