My friend is thinking of getting a brand new PSP using the gift card he got for his birthday from BestBuy. What firmware version is he likely to get. Has 2.71 been introduced in new PSPs in the US?

Theoretically, it has been. But I've yet to see any in the wild yet. Best to hurry and buy before 2.7x is everywhere.

yes 2.71 is evrywhere now. But you can always try it in the store and check the FW Very Happy

Guess what, the one we got had 2.71. We packed it up and took it back to the store. I told him to either wait for 2.71 to be downgradeable or get a used one.

Plus, you need to make sure the motherboard isnt a TA-082 board as these have something built into the hardware or something to "blacklist" firmwares below 2.5...
