PostPosted: Sun, 2nd Jul 2006 21:13    Post subject: My posts
First of all, this topic is likely to be in the wrong spot, and maybe even not wanted at all by the modernators, but since the posts I'm refering to were posted in this forum and besides, people will recognise me directly when I post it here, not when I post it somewhere else. If this topic must be closed/ removed, so be it. At least the modernator knows than.

Lately I've been making posts here notifying new releases, where I merly copy the NFO (without serials) and state the disk count. One time, the NFO had been removed, without any reason at all. But most of the times, a topic had started about a clone release of the same game I just make a topic about. A standard reaction is 'no need for another post'. Last time I reacted on that telling that I notify everyone watching this forum that that release had hit the net, not bothering about the whole chit-chat about everything and nothing. All I know is that people are lazy. Damn lazy. They just want to check a page, that only needs to be refreshed once in a while, that tells them what they want to know. Browsing thru the topics looking for new releases are for many too much work. Now, don't start the shit that that's exactly the reason why I make a new post, cause that's just bullshefism (read previous lines again and use your brains, than you'll know why I make new posts and see that there sure is logic behind it). It's true that the site is best for this kind of behavior, but since it's getting really slow lately and sometimes not showing releases at all, I decided to post the releases here, including NFO and disk count, so in case someone thinks he could post it to the site aswell, he can (even though I realise that he/ she wants to make sure he/ she is nog posting a fake NFO).

Now, my last topic had been closed after some people had a small discussion about banning 'topic spammers' like me, so since I had no chance to react there; I'm not a topic spammer, not a spammer at all. Read the above text again, before you start frying me about this again. I got NO intention AT ALL in getting the highest post count of all so everyone in here can see how long I've been here and how much knowledge I have and with how much more shit I'm filled with (I guess that's the motivation of the real spammers, even though....I wouldn't know for sure). The real spammers, in my honest oppinion, are the ones who reply to my post with 'no need for another topic' (not to mention the guys who merly quote those replies). If I could, I would close my topic right after I made it, since, like I said before, I don't care about the chit-chat, I only notify.

Thanks to the mods, if they didn't remove this post at sight. At least now you got a little background. If I'm doing anything wrong, tell me once and tell me here. If people are just about flamming, mods....you know what to do.

Thanks for your time,

Battle_707

Battle, why on earth would you think a criticism of the forum will be deleted? I welcome the odd decent thought out critical discussion of the site. It's what makes a site better and shows us where we can improve on it.

However after reading your post (with difficulty) I just have to point you to rule 5 and rule 11.

..and If you want to use NFOrce to look for releases, then there's the NFO-section. A forum Is used to "chit-chat" about stuff. Simple as that.. Smile

And divide the text into sections, easier on the eyes then.

But there once was a rule that each release deserves it's own thread. What happended to that? I think it should be clarified by the rules. Either way there should only be one thread for a game (including demo talk, retail and releases talk) or each release has it's own thread, all other options leave a mess. And i think not all mods are aware of the fact that posting nfo's is allowed now Wink

I'm sorry. English is not my native language. Also I've got distracted while writing too often, so I already had the feeling it was getting a little....unclear (that's why there's a 'thanks for your time' at the end of the post x) ).

Anyway, rule 5; I do search. Even though I know from myself that, no matter how much energy I spend in not doing so, I miss some fact from time to time. But since I think my post was still clear enough that I post for all those 'lazy people', so I take it you're refering to them now. I know...they should read the rules, and they should search and so they are actually the problem, but aknowledging (how to write?) a problem and actually having a fix for it are two totally different things.
And about rule 11; I do remove the serials from the posts, but like I said before, no matter how hard I try, mistakes cross my road....too often....I know.

And the reason why a mod would delete this would probably be the same as banning 'topic spammers' (and so, according to them; me). But as people were suggesting that aswell...

EDIT (after new posts):

Sorry...didn't realise I was giving you another reason to make a spam post

And sorry...I did devide my post in two paragraphs (no line blanc). While I was writing the post, the different paragraphs were clear, but after I made the post, it became unclear. I edited it now. Sorry for the unconfenience.

I don't have a say in this but here's what I think.

First thread should stay open unless the new one has a really good template. If you're not going to make a good template then don't make a thread?

I love templates on this site ^.^ means I don't have to go searching for min specs and other shit like that.

But Battle I am a mod and I don't consider you spamming at all. Although I do agree with an earlier poster that each release should have it's own thread and anything to do with that release should go in there and only there. I'm sure you think you're helping, but consider this. If theres multiple threads on a given title and you search for that title, just imagine having to trawl though those threads when that person does a search.

Those "lazy people" have a lot more work to do.

Well, take the situation that a guy searches on '<game name> RELOADED' and two topics show up:

1) <game name>.SFCLONE-UNLEASHED
2) <game name>-RELOADED

I have good faith that everyone will first click the second topic and, most likely, find all the info they need there (honesty I don't know what else there's to say besides what's said in the NFO and the disk count). If they only see result one, they may think there's no RELOADED release (I bet many times people posted a reply with 'I hope RELOADED cracks this game fast, which would explain the result).

It's ok if there topics are merged into '<game name>.Clone-UNLEASHED / REALODED' (for example), but than it's instantly clear. Also, a replies like 'RELOADED has just released a cracked version' should stop. It's not only cheap and really easy, but there's no creditability to it.

PS: I used RELOADED and UNLEASHED merly for an example. Other groups do great jobs.

I can see where you're coming from. But doing it that way (which is what we used to do) meant that the discussion of the actual game was split over different threads. Everything got a bit fragmented.

True. That brings me back to something I said in my first post;

Perhpaps there's a solution here? People being able to close their own posts?

Battle, I'm a member of another forum where the user has the ability to close his or her thread. I'm not a mod on that forum but I can see the problems that being able to close the tread causes.

An argument occurs and the thread starter closes the thread having the last word. So the other guy he's arguing with opens another thread to have the last say.

I don't think it works personally.

Ok...I see that problem. But modernators are always still able to reopen the thread. You could set a warning for everyone that closes his thread for no (good) reason.

Or perhaps there's a way that people can (easier) upload to the site itself? Just throwing in some thoughts...

Your putting across some good points Battle, nice to see that you can provide feedback without it being all about "the mods are bullying me" etc.. haha..

I'm probably the mod who closes most of your threads as in my eyes after clone releases began getting popular the need for a thread for each release got silly, it did mess up the forums and cause issue with people not knowing where to post comments about the game. As someone has already stated the NFO section is the place for release checking, the forum is the place for chit chat. However you have also put forward the point about the NFO section not being as fast these days, the solution to this is to find good NFO uploaders.. If you feel you get NFO's before they are on NFOrce it might be worthwhile becoming an updater at the next intake..

I will bring the point up in the admin/mod section for discuession and we shall get back to you about the points raised.

Actually the clone threads in the game section are silly too Wink , because there is only discussion on how to run the games. I think it would be better to only have one single thread per game, and all discussions about a game takes place in this single thread. Discussions about releases should take place in the Technical Section, and once again one central thread for each release. This would simplify searching and no one would be confused about where to post.

Agree completely. Lets say you have one particular release of a game and you've having trouble getting it to work, so you want to see what other solutions people have tried. Well if there are multiple releases of a game then you might have to wade through tons of posts irrelevent to the release you have, only to find it difficult to maintain a discussion with the people who have the same release as you.

Yeah. I like threads that cover a specific release. That way all related information can be kept individual threads. You dont have search through 10 pages of shit on the clone version, cracked version, ripped version etc You want info on the cracked game, you go to the cracked version thread...
