They like to think society doesn't accept them. Possibly when it first started out it could have been considered rebellious, now it's just another style in the mixing pot.
I mean, how common are goths and the like now. Way back they were fairly rare, it was a unique look. Not any more.
I've been out with a couple of goth chicks, and when it comes down to it they're not much different from any other girls. Sure, they tend to be a bit more emo then average and they have this pseudo 'fuck the establishment' attitude, but its not real. There is no conviction there, they just think it looks cool.

Yeah well I can't say for canada, but here in england they're quite common. They hang out in a few clubs/pubs I frequent.
Hey, I like the look too, not the attitude so much, but that really depends on the girl. Dark eye makeup looks fantastic in my opinion.
