I want to get either the xbox 360 or the PSP w/ 1.5 firmware. Which do you suggest based of moddability. I tried the xbox 260 and really liked the games but I am not sure how mature the current firmware hacking procedures are. I am worried future updates might render the hack useless.

On the other hand, I had a PSP that I bought for my brother and I really liked it in the short time I played. Only minuses were the small screen and the then lack of good games, but lately many of the games have been playable.

What is the life of the PSP? The Xbox 360 just came out so I am sure there will be another 3-4 years of games coming out for out. But do you think the PSP will be getting that many years worth of games?

BTW I still love my modded xbox its the best money I ever spent on gaming.

When did you try an Xbox 260!? Laughing

I have both and unless you want to be forking out for 360 games you would be better off with a PSP. I dont think you can compare the two like that. Since one is portable and one isnt and one is far superior in graphics and sound and the other isnt. The easiest option would be to get a 1.5 PSP if you intend playing downloaded games.

Sorry I cant help with your decision but there are many nice people on this forum who will contribute something more useful to your thread.

May the NFOrce be with you always.

It of course depends on what you looking for. I like to be at the cutting edge, so I'm getting a 360. Theres nothing better then a game being so beautiful it makes your eyes bleed, and I doubt the PSP is capable of that. Very Happy

See, I played GRAW and Kameo on a pretty huge HDTV at my mates house. There was this massive battlefied in Kameo that he was playing through, there were TONS of units onscreen and it looked immaculate...well lets just say I had to change my pants after that.

You said it yourself the 360 firmware hack may not last all that long, time will tell I guess. In comparison to the Xbox which is obviously a fairly versatile machine once you stick a modchip in it, the current modability of the 360 seems extremely limited to me - undeniably a great machine though as Animalmother said and so many good titlles around the corner as Nailbiter pointed out on another thread.

PSP on the other hand is a machine that you can you can use as a portable mp3/movie player and if your into retro gaming theres a stack of emulators so even if the current crop of games aren't that appealing you can play all the old squaresoft SNES RPGs or whatever on the move which really appeals to me. I also bought GTA Liberty Cities recently and for a handheld title it was pretty impressive and very, very ambitious.

As a gaming machine I would go for a 360 easily and for pure modability plus the fact that your effectively getting all the features of an Ipod Video/Zen Video with a decent line up of games I would go for a PSP. Two very different machines though and it really depends on what type of experience YOU are looking for. Never really been a handheld man myself, last one I bought was a Lynx which had some great games but boy did it die a gruesome death. Razz

The PSP still sucks for games, there are a few that might grab your attention for a short while and a number of "ok" rpg's should that be your thing, but really, we need the future to be now.. There are a number of kick ass games heading to the PSP, but they seem to be a long way off..

However the homebrew/hack scene is massive for the PSP providing every kind of emulator (N64 should be full speed in a couple of days and there are strong rumors of a playstation emulator being released soon that can play FF7..), loads of homebrew applications and games as well as the whole ISO loading thing.. Now that devs have kernel access in 2.6 firmware things are even better.. You should pick up a PSP soon though, before they start distributing with 2.7 firmware (this may have already begun?!

As for the 360, I don't have any personal experience with the console but I would guess the future has a lot in store, but some of it will likely change the hacks.. Personally I would wait for the scene to mature before getting one.

Xbox 360 is in a very immature state but word from main groups that are handling the hacking are already stating they are running homebrew xbox1 software and can attatch a 400gig hd to it as well. They had a xbox dashboard running and an n64 running. It really looks like it's going to mature nicely.
