Don't know if you remember but I asked about capturing from my old analgoue camcorder a while back. Anyway I eventually got it to work. The problem I have now is that the results are not too good.

For starters the source quality is naturally not that great to begin with (but it's not noticeable when viewed on a PAL television).

The trouble is I can definately notice a consistent loss in frames when transferred to my PC and I also notice that the CPU is working overtime, BIG TIME. I didn't realise it was this intensive on the hardware!

I'd need to totally strip out everything from my computer if I wanted to upgrade as I'm at the maximum my current board can accept - so beyond upgrading is there anything I can do to prevent losses of frames? Any specific hardware that will take some of the load off the CPU or what?

I'm using my ATi X850xt as the video input device along with my Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro for the audio input.

Although the encoded video is watchable it's annoying me that it's not a perfect transition from the old analogue source.

you've told us nothing about your setup and the codecs used for capping.

it'll never be "perfect" but you should never be dropping frames.

Lower the capping resolution, cap to your fastest drive, change the codec you're capping to, to one less cpu intensive.
