Reduce the internal operating temperature of the 360 while prolonging the consoles lifespan. Its actually quite loud I think. You can certainly hear it when its on and it is several times louder than the 360 ventilation system. If it does the job it was intended for then I have no problems with putting up with minor noise issues.
