Not sure, but does a computer draw the full wattage of the PSU the whole time? Or does it only take what it needs? If the latter, then continue to my question.

I'm looking for a program that can calculate how many watt's you are using over any period of time. Any ideas?

I think that AC (alternating current) work so that it returns the power it doesnt need and only keeps the power it uses.

hehe it doesnt return anything, the PSU just sucks as much wattage as it needs or can if you overload it Smile

And no, no program can magically run and tell you how much wattage your pc is sucking. Get a W-Meter that you just plug in between the power-socket and the pc's power-line. There is another way tho. Dig up specs for every pc part you have running and add up the watt-ratings. Its not accurate but it gives you a rough estimate.

The idea of counting how much everything runs is a very rough estimate and thats if all your gear is being used. As MRT says, you need a hardware tool to do the counting unless youre Magical Trevor : )

I just thought of another way. Get a multimeter, first measure the volts and amps going thru the molex connector then simply do some math:

P = U × I

U being volts and I being ampers. Of course its abit hard to measure the PCI/AGP slots like that but you really dont have to. Just dig up the specs of those slots and read-off the max wattage it can supply Smile
