GRRRRRRRRRRR for the last fucking week or so I've not been able to use my external drives (which I use for my wares) at all, since for some reason, there's a fucking power surge in the USB ports roughly 15 minutes after I mount the drive(s) in TrueCrypt. And once the surge happens, I have to restart my puter since I'm in effect, DDoS'd by the fucking warnings going to whatever code manages the USB power. Even in fucking linux it does this! I think I'm going to kill myself now.

yeah fucking USB ! sometimes my mp3 player won't be recognized.. but that might be because of all the fluff in the USB port on it

Are you connecting into a hub or the motherboard? If your using the motherboard, who makes it?
I know my ASUS board has problems.

I did use a hub, but that was getting problems so I went directly to the motherboard's ports, and still I have problems. And I think this is an Intel motherboard, I needs to check.

May want to check it, motherboard manufacturer. Another thing, did you try different cables? I hear that some of the really cheap ass ones are not shielded well against interference.
