lol, it was crap. It was basically a souped up Quake 1 & 2 without any nuances of any kind. Unreal Tournament might have had the same level of disparity in regards to weapons and so forth but it at least managed to have a balance of different styles and varietys of gameplay.
The successive versions of UT got worse though IMO. |

i think evry one of us has at least once argued over this but its really not needed... ppl who like Q3 like it for its purity of the game style... where as UT is really more a team oriented 'thinking man's' game. one is not better then the other...comparing Mods, graphics , sound is useless as a great game is beyond such things though its partly made of them.
.... another way to compare it would be to take 10 ppl who play UT like there is no tomorrow and the same with Q3... and ask them why u like to play this game... im sure that the UT players will give u ten different answers but the Q3 ppl will be unanimous for their passion for it ... ofcourse verbally it will vary but at the core of it wll be like i describe... i just like it cus it gives me what no other game can...
some say and rightly so, about Q3 not being as 'flexible' or not having variety of style but thats the price u pay for sticking to ur guns and ofcourse do u need more options because ur board to easily by only one... Q3 will have its place and UT will make its mark but really cant offer the core gamming experiance.... its beyond the sounds... the graphics... even the gameplay in certain ways... after all why do we really game... that maybe more appropriate question for a psychologist or philosopher than a reviewer... at least thats the way i see it.
... to me Q3 devotees play from the heart... play by instinct... idealy evry act is a an impulse not a decision, UT guys play from the intelect... plan and coordinate... takes time... but the sence of accomplishment is longer lasting though not as intence. ofcourse u can guess what i choose.

what about Q4 multiplayer... havent played it but i hear its a smooth transition from Q3...

UT'99 was fantastic, I played it for four years and loved it. I just didn't like the rest of the series because of that Quakey feeling..

UT 99 ruled evry MP game that was availble. to bad they screwed up with UT 2003. but UT 2004 was decent, so far there is none MP game that have mastered UT 99 not atleast according to me.

sad part is that your are probably right, as almost evryone stated so far UT99 was the shit. but i agree they will most likly fuck this up. since they dont care as much about feeling of a game these days as they do about graphic, but that goes for most games. its all tnx to the kiddys that think graphic equals gameplay. also they are a majority on the sale front so ofcourse they listen to them. atleast thats my point of view.
