I modded my used PS2. I hear noises when I load a game sometimes. The guy who modded it told me this happens because the laser lens is burnt. He said the lens won't last long. He said when the laser lens totally goes, then I would either have to spend for another Laser Lens or he would try to figure out how to re-oxidize it. Can I just go to the store and buy a Lens Cleaner? I've been looking at 3 different cleaners: Maxell DVD Lens Cleaner, Maxell CD Laser Lens Cleaner Gold and Regular. If I went out and bought one of those discs will it fix my problem? If so which one should I get?
rather than the lens your guy means that the laser itself is burning out...a good lens cleaner wont do any harm but probably wont help any... ps2s seem prone to laser burnout, i had 2 myself, but modded ps2s seem even more prone to it, in particular earlier mod chips accelerate death dramatically...
if the laser voltage hasn't been tweaked before than i would suggest giving it a try before forking out cash for a new laser...do a google search for ps2 laser adjustment... be careful and dont be rash as too much adjustment can kill your laser dead.
perhaps give all the usual mantainence a go before spending cash. ie one by one,giving your ps2 a good clean with case off, adjusting and cleaning the cd tray, adjusting laser angle, and finally tweaking laser voltage if nescesary...
