My friend want to rip old vinyls in mp3 but we both have no idea how we can hook up is old record player on his PC and what prog to use. His PC is brand new but he have a onboard soundcard.
Ok, check the back of the PC for a Line in connection near the Audio jacks, Its the Blue coloured one
now you have 2 options, connect to the Headphone socket or connect to the Phono out audio connectors on the record player (if it has them).
To connect to the phono sockets you need a Cable like this -

Now you want to record to a file, Forgot what software I used but theirs lots out their, a quick google search will get you some... But you could use the Sound Recorder built into Windows if you want and select the input to Line in instead of microphone then hit play on record player and record on PC
