"Natural Selection has hit the gaming world like a ten tonne truck, stirring up such an interest not seen since Counter-Strike did the same so long ago...One thing is certain though, Natural Selection has paved the way for a whole new genre in gaming and mod making."

Mod/Game info:
Natural Selection blends first-person combat with real-time strategy. It features intense 'marines vs. aliens' teamplay, where one marine can become Commander. The Commander plays from a top-down perspective and leads live players.
The aliens can evolve upgrades like "Cloaking" and "Scent of Fear", and can change lifeforms to run on walls, fly, and even devour marines whole.
NS has atmospheric indoor sci-fi environments full of steam and smoke, and features custom orchestral music from the award-winning Jeremy Soule.
It is a freely-available Half-life modification, and since its release in October of 2002, has had over 2 million downloads, and has 20,000 unique players every day.
The latest version is NS v3.0 (currently in beta), which features the following new features:
Natural Selection: Combat
Natural Selection: Combat is a new fast and furious gameplay mode focusing on intense action. Combat games generally last less than ten minutes, and require very little knowledge to play.
New maps - Six new Combat maps, made just for Combat. Enjoy a combat-simulation on "daimos", battle over rock and water on "core", or enjoy non-stop action on "faceoff".
New upgrades - New Combat-specific upgrades like "resupply" and personal scanner sweep give you help when you need it.
Gain experience - Get experience for killing the enemy, or for attacking their base. As you gain experience, you gain levels. Each new level lets you choose a new upgrade, weapon, or piece of equipment. Even after death, you retain these power-ups.
New NS gameplay
New look - Over 150 new textures and new NS maps give the game a whole new look. Fight in the claustrophic halls of ns_ayumi, catching a glimpse of snow falling outside a catwalk, or take control of the awe-inspiring and incredible ns_agora.
Catalyst-packs - New "catalyst-packs" allow Commander to speed rate of fire and movement of marines for a short duration.
New lerk - New flight model for the "Lerk", allowing smooth and precise flapping and gliding (he also has his bite back!).
New spectator interface - All-new spectator mode is easier to use and ideal for match commentators.
New manual - The manual has been totally re-written to include a "quick start" guide, and detailed information on every weapon, ability and structure.
Other features - New chat and font system, the ability for mappers to pre-place structures in maps, 'votemap' command, new scoreboard, new alien "focus" upgrade, and much more.
Balanced and tested
Extensively tested - Extensive playtesting with over 100 NS clans and hundreds of Constellation members will mean the most balanced and fun NS yet.
Massive improvements - Over 200 bugs and exploits have been fixed in this version, along with dozens of other improvements. These include "sinking" structures, better hitboxes for players and structures (even for wall-walking skulks!), skulk prediction fixes, and hundreds more.

I can highly recommende this MOD since it combines so much things and litterally kicks CS off the throne...
And If you haven't noticed you need the good old HL Retail.

Very nice post! I've heard a lot about it before and respect the team but HL is so damn outdated today. I'll rather play unfinnished HL2 mods at the moment.

Yeah, great mod. Had a stint where this was all I played, all the time.
Sadly it is outdated now really.

This mod will get a real boost in popularity when(if?) it gets ported to Source. All of the older mods would, really, but this game seems especially perfect for the Source engine and all the enhancements it brings to the games that run in it. God I hope that the devs follow through with a port, even if it is barely anything more than a straight port, a one-time deal before they go develop a pay version (however that will pan out).
Not looking forward to a bunch of new crappy mods, though. Natural Selection caliber only, please!

tbh i dont think this will be pay only like gunman chronicles. i think it might be for a few weeks but then it'll just release it for free and accept the others as donations maybe giving them a free t-shirt or sumthin. and it WILL be going to source its being developed now
