Wow this game is really good! Graphically it looks lovely, and does an extremely good job of emersing you into the Italian-American feel of the 1950's. The cutscenes and game audio are done really well too - with the cutscenes being the FIRST EVER game's cutscenes i've actually been keen to watch to the end.

I haven't played alot of the game yet - but already I get a GTA crossed with Mafia feel - and i'm really enjoying it. Some really nice features include the fact that while you are driving across the city on a mission, to, say go into a house and kill the owners - it will load WHILE you drive, so when you arrive at your destination theres no waiting for the system before you go in and give 'em some.

The fighting is pretty cool - you use left trigger to select enemies and the right analogue stick to perform moves / defend. If you hold in the right trigger too, you will hold the victim closer to you - thus increasing the damage on them.

After just being given your first hand gun you have to go into a large building and kill everyone. Basically I like the fact you can be hiding in cover, aim to shoot someone in the shoulder and then pop around the corner, give them some led in the shoulder - meaning they drop their weapon and scream out. Another example of this depth would be the way you can shoot someone in the knee, and they fall over in agony (don't make the mistake of thinking they won't shoot you while they're on the floor though!).

Overall i'm really enjoying this - it's been real fun so far. I know alot of people will be tempted to call this a Mafia / GTA rip-off - and maybe in some respects it is - however, it brings alot more to the genre (with the cool fighting and great shooting systems). Oh and the cars are so much more fun/rewarding to drive than in Driver 4. Ironic huh.

So far - 8/10

haha this is so cool. So i go into this shop to extort the shop's owner - get him to pay me some money each week - and basically i dont notice theres one of the rival gangs inside. so he starts shooting, a policeman out side hears this and then i've got police shooting me, and the other gang outside the shot - all the windows suddenly start blowing in etc.etc. I crawl out while both partys continue to shoot each other and dont get shot until i was half way down the road. into a car I got and I was away. didnt get the extortion money tho Sad

I preferred the console version of this personally - played the PC version on Saturday morning and wasn't all that impressed with the graphics or the way the controls were mapped, playing the game at a high res on a very good computer just served to expose how poor the textures are for a PC game. When you play it on a console and the TV has the effect of softening the graphics to my eye at least it looked more bearable plus the added benefit of the controls being bound perfectly by default.

I haven't played into the game to a massive extent but noticed some differences already between this and the pc version - in the prologue for example when your characters father is gunned down at the start on the console version he actually looks like hes been shot i.e. face and suit covered in blood where as on the pc version when I tryed it there was a similiar effect to the gore in something like Medal of Honour in that you see the puffs of blood and blood splatters but incredibly the persons jacket and face remain clean as a whistle.

So far im enjoying the game, think it should/could have been alot better given the high profile of the title but still alot of fun - its when you watch the games tutorial videos showing the extortion/rivals etc that you realise some of the stuff they were trying to achieve. Smile

Thanks that's useful information for me. I wasn't sure if I should get it for PC or Xbox but I think I'll choose the Xbox version now.

I think it's a solid game. There are some downfalls like the driving isn't the greatest, but it's super easy to control the vehicles and hitting pedestrians is great fun. The fighting controls can be bothersome at times, but again that can be overlooked. The characters look so damn good and the gameplay is pretty tight. I would probably rate this game an 8.4/10 or possibly a 4.2/5 or maybe an 84/100. Anyone that enjoys sandbox games will definitely love this game. Anyone that enjoys the Godfather movies will definitely love this game. If you are someone who nitpicks every aspect of a game, stay away. We don't need your awful reviews bringing down a thoroughly enjoyable experience in the last few months of the Xbox's existence.

If you're on the fence and your expectations aren't sky high, get it. You won't be disappointed.

Its just personal opinion as always Weedo - I preferred Call of Cthulhu on the Xbox as well. When I tryed it on the PC I missed the feel of the controller in my hand even though generally in FPS style games mouse/keyboard is my preference, missed the force feedback relating to the onscreen imagery especially in moments of panic and I don't know I also just thought that the game had a kind of "lightweight" quality about it on a PC, your character almost glides around where as when I played the Xbox version I fealt the character had a sense of weight. Even the graphics and loading times weren't that much improved, I guess its a sign of the times that more and more games are developed initially on consoles and then ported back with little or no improvements for PCs not that it bothers me.

I fealt the same about Marc Eckos:Getting Up as well.

Thankyou, im glad someone saw where I was coming from. Im really interested now to see why they held back the Xbox360 version and what there gonna do with it - clearly they couldn't have released the game as is on the PC or Xbox the game just doesn't challenge the hardware at all. It will be nice to see them make a more next gen, polished version of the game and do the film real justice.

They still have some way to go though if they want to compete with Chicago Enforcer in terms of graphical splendour/pure playability eh?. Razz

this game is really really good 4 hours in and trully well presented and executed , great week for games eh Smile

As for framerate, the 360 version runs smooth, while the PS3 is a jaggy mess that chugs along in slow motion.
