I'm having serious problems with my computer. Whenever i try to extract archived files i get CRC errors. I'm also getting them when i try to install games. I tried installing black and white 2 less than 2 minutes ago and it gave me a CRC error when trying to extract one of the .cab files from the CD. And i know it's not the CD that's faulty since i could install it fine a few months ago on my old computer. Also, the CD has only been used once before, and it's brand new out of the box. When i try to extract archives, i get them seemingly randomly. I had this zip archive that had multiple split rar archives in it. I can extract the zip fine, but when i try to extract the rars i get random crc errors. Like if i extract the zip archive once and then try to extract the resulting rar files, i'll get crc errors in a few of the rar files. But if i try to extract the zip archive again to a different folder on my harddrive and then try to extract the new rars in the new location i'll get crc errors in a different set of the files than the previous set! Also, all the iso's and archived movies and stuff are giving me CRC errors too! They all worked fine a few days ago before my old hard drive broke, but now everything is giving me CRC errors. So it has to be a hardware problem. I'm gonna cry any minute...




This is especially annoying since my computer is brand new. I bought it 1 month ago. At first it wouldn't boot up, so i sent it back to the store to have them look at it, and spent an extra €130 in service fees, and they found it was the RAM that was defective. So i got it replaced free of charge and then took the computer home and everything was perfect for about 1 month until this week. I had no problems what so ever. But then my harddrive started getting corrupted, and programs would crash randomly, and windows would re-boot randomly. I ran a program called system mechanic which told me the harddrive was damaged. So i went and bought a new one 2 days ago (which cost me yet ANOTHER €130 ) and reinstalled windows on it. And now i'm getting the random crc errors for no reason!! I'm gonna go insane any minute now! I payed €1300 for this piece of shit computer, plus an additional €260 for the repairs and the new hard drive.



These are the specs for the system:


OS: Win xp professional with SP2 (i got the CRC errors even before i installed SP2, so that's not it)

CPU: AMD 3500XP 64bit running at 2.2Ghz

RAM: 2 gigs PC3200 DDR

HD: The first one that broke after just one month was a Hitachi 250Gb and the one i have now that i bought two days ago is also a 250Gb, but a western digital. Both are SATA drives.

Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-K8N Pro SLI

Graphics: Geforce 7800 GTX

That's about it for the specs. Someone please help, i'm desperate!!! I'm literally in tears!

Try copying the CAB file to your PC and extract. Does the CRC problem occur with all RAR/ZIP/7z files? Did you upgrade your Winrar? If one extracting tool give you error, try a different one. Make sure it's not the extracting software's fault.

If you hate it, ignore it.

hmm tricky, could be a problem with the hd or memory. best try a dedicated forum like hard ocp. your more likely to find an answer there :- http://www.hardforum.com/
