I'm fairly certain there is an old thread for this buried in the depths of the hump, but oh well.

  • Official web page: FTLGame
  • Trailer: Vimeo
  • Demo: OnLive
  • Genre: Roguelike-like in space
  • Release date: Summer 2012
  • Description:

Quote:
FTL (Faster Than Light) is a spaceship simulation real-time roguelike-like game made by Matthew Davis and Justin Ma (@jarmustard) with music/sound by Ben Prunty.

You control a starship tasked with a crucial mission to save the Federation.
To survive hostile environments and deadly foes, you will need to balance power between systems, manage your crew, and upgrade the ship.

Starting yesterday there is a playable demo at the link above. Requires OnLive, but it's definitely worth it.

The first roguelike i've played i believe. So there's no way of completing a game? You just play until all characters are dead? Not entirely sure what i think of that yet, the gameplay itself was fun though, easily worth $10.

At least it's not ascii-based like your typical roguelike. But install onlive? Meh.

I noticed Onlive was a nice way to take a sneak peak of games you havent bothered with installing.. A lot quicker than searching, downloading and installing / uninstalling. Not that i would use it to actually play a game though, but for testing its pretty ok.

It doesnt run in the background either all the time like crappy Steam which installs as a "service".

Dungeons of Dredmore is a commercially successful roguelike, available on Windows. IOS also has quite a few, if you're got an iDevice.

@topic

Thanks dezz, it sounds great.. but OnLive? I'll wait for a native Win app, but thank you for bringing the game to my attention Very Happy

Looks neat, but why oh why OnLive? I really don't want to support that bullshit. And in this case it makes no sense, either: it's not even a hardware-heavy game.

It uses OnLive for now because it's an IGF game, and the IGF finalists (I believe) were offered to have their demos hosted on OnLive for an even they're having. Devs say they're not ready to release a standalone demo yet.

seems like you're beyond retardation since you werent even able to express a simple argument , something even a retard should be able to do.

Doesnt cost me anything, saves a lot of time for games i'm only half interested in, doesnt run in the background as a service like Steam and most other crappy online services. I see no reason for hating + you've proven you have no arguments which clearly makes you the lol wut

You just proved you're monumentally lazy. I thought the argument was so blatantly obvious it went beyond saying. My bad for trusting simple human deductive skills.

I'm sorry you took my strict opposition to OnLive so personally you jumped to the most childish of insults on the first reply. But it's okay, you like YouTube-style gaming. Not that your point's entirely without worth, but I wouldn't support OnLive for such a minute advantage.

Lazy? There are way better things to do than to download and install crap all day, guess you've also proven that you have no life. I have no interest at all in buying games on Onlive. Your only """"argument"""" is that it shouldn't be supported, or else? PC gaming will end as we know it? You're pretty dumb.

Any releases around? I'll love to try it, the onLive demo was too choppy for me and didn't want to pay $25 for a closed beta.

Its a unique design, and people want change from the sterotype games that are nowadays, every nowadays AAA game have or had something from other games or it is just a cheap copy.
