Quote: | True Odyssey takes place in the near future, when the "G-System," a system by which people can create anything for which they have a blueprint, has brought Mobile Suits into the world. An organization has its sights set on using G-System for evil purposes, and it's your job to straighten things out. You play as Trush, a cheerful 16-year old who has created his own Mobile Suit. Joining you on your adventure are Eachie, a fourteen year old girl who was raised along side Trush, and Fritz, another young heroine who lost her memory and doesn't even know her own age. The world and characters of True Odyssey are different from what one may expect having seen the Gundam cartoons. The game looks like a fantasy-based RPG world, complete with towns and palaces, although the presence of giant Mobile Suits in the screenshots we've seen is unmistakable. The story is also separate from the main Gundam series -- you won't find the Zeon or Federation, for instance. |

this game sucks, take the mecha battle system from xenogears but leave everything else, like the story, music, character development that made xenogears fantastic behind,
and you got this.
very shallow and boring game, the rpg system offers not even slightly anything new.

Don't be so quick to write this game off.
This is apparently the first Gundam/Mobile Suit type game to be brought out in English, at least in recent years.
Sure the first half hour is underwhelming, but 5 hours in and so far I haven't had so much fun in a long time.
For me RPGs are judged best by how much they hook you in, that drive to develop and expand your characters and explore the world. Story....well they're all ridiculous....give me a good book anyday.
Whats different about MS Saga (unique in my experience..) is the amazing extra dimension the Mobile Suits bring to the game, the customisation and potential to add new parts and weapons is extraordinary and there are masses of models. Dare I say it....theres a pokemon type factor in here +++
Sure, the reviews I've read of this title so far, pretty much can it, but there are lots of stupid comments like the graphics are PS1 standard, gimme a break, anyone actually played it! The combination of overworld map, detailed towns and expansive areas (like industrial estates) where you battle mechs is a good balance and there is plenty of variety for my tastes.
Want another perspective, check out the only FAQ on this title on Gamefaqs at
http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/data/927476.html
You'll get a sense of the scale of the game and the range of Mobile Suits/Mechs available.
Ok its a 'traditional' title, definitely not cutting edge, but the producers of this title have got the basic formula really right....which is more than I can say for most console RPGs that are released these days
This is likely to be a cult title, particularly for those more interested in gameplay than gloss.

i really dont care about gfx in rpgs, and i do admit i just played this for half an hour, but it was just too boring.
in this 30 minutes absolutely nothing worth pointing out happened, and i was able to take a look at the battle system, which is downright simplistic and turns it into a run of the mill rpg.
but, you said that it gets better and there s alot of customization, so i ll give it another chance, but i m not putting up my hope.
