Here is the current information available:
- Release Date: March 2nd (Japan)
- Price: 16,800 Yen (US$149, AU$199)
- Size: (Side) 133.0 × (length) 73.9 × (thickness) 21.5mm [Original DS: (side) 148.7 × (length) 84.7 × (thickness) 28. 9mm]
- Weight: 218g [Original DS: 275g]
- There are 4 stages of screen brightness (similar to the PSP)
- The power switch is now a flick switch on the side of the unit like the PSP's
- The Stylus fits into the unit side on. Not vertical like the original DS
- The DS Lite is reported to be more comfortable than the regular DS
- The screens are reported to be brighter and sharper than the PSP's screen (eg: similar to the GameBoy Micro) |
Anyway i'll stick with my silver one for now but if one falls into my lap cheaply i'll accept it. The improved screen (although its actually not bad on the current one) sounds nice but I wonder why they decided to change the way the pen went into the DS. I think vertically is better. and i hope they reposition the thumb strap since i'm left handed and cant really use it comfortably because it's a lil bit too short.

I doubt it. My DS has 2 particually broken pixels and is pretty scratched and bashed now  I'd trade it in for a small cost such as £20 since i've lost all my stylus pens too >_<

I don't understand why they called it lite really. I mean it's not a cut down version in any way is it? It seems slightly upgraded if anything.
o.t. Anyone know where I can get an M3 SD version in the UK?

it's lite because it's trimmed down a bit and wont be as bulky or heavey. It will also come in 2 other colours.

Well at least they answered some public problems. Yes it's a money spinning idea but can you blame them? The DS is dominating the PSP in every department. This incorporation of 'the best of the psp' is just a knife in the back really.
Also was there really much need for other GB updates? GBA SP really worth it? Micro? ... yes the gb pocket was quite a big leap but again if you had just bought a brick GB you wouldn't sell it and buy a pocket for a lot of money.
I wonder if these DS lite's will also be the same ones that the pokemon games are supposed to come with (not that i care really) but it would be pretty decent for the americans to get a pikachu ds lite as opposed to the one the japs got a while bk (i think...) |

without the SP the GBA would've been a huge desaster. The very first units were total shit, dark games like Castlevania pretty much unplayable. IMHO the SP really saved Nintendos ass.

It's a prottype for testing. i.e. sturdiness, safty issues, specification infringements etc. When it comes out it will be glossy and in other colours. I'd go for this given the choice because of the new screens. I wont buy one though and sell my other one.

February 16, 2006 - Nintendo Europe made a brief statement today announcing that Nintendogs has reached two million units in sales in the European territories since it went on sale on October 7, 2005.
In comparison, Nintendogs has sold more than 1.5 million in the US, and more than a million in Japan. It was released in the US last year on August 22nd and in Japan on April 21st.

God another console re-issue
Why can't they (Sony AND Nintendo) simply make a console right, release it and let the consumers enjoy it (read "Make profit") instead of creating (somewhat minor but still) market confusion and make 1st version buyers angry (read "jealous" lol).
I wish I had something really cool to put in my sig...

im not jealous really. I'm fully happy with my brick like DS since i only use it in bed / when havin a shit
The contrast thing is something i'd like, and a longer pen, but im not at all envious because I know they've paid enough to warrant it
