Hi all,

Well, I bought a new PC (a P4 3,09Ghz - 1024MB RAM) and have been really happy with it - except for one thing, the graphics card. I've not had a decent rig for a while (I know this isn't top range, but should cover me for a while!) so have been out of touch with the latest graphics cards, so here's the question...

Would it be worth upgrading the gfx card from a 6200 (256MB with TurboCache) to a 6600? - I mean, would I see a noticable frame-rate improvement in games like Doom 3?

I hope someone can help me. The reason I mention this card in particular is that I can get one reasonable cheap (150 euros).

Thanks for your help,
Stattaldo

Hmm if I were you I would upgrade since it will improve (also on hgher spec games) Though do not expect the best graphic options. You should go after a steady FPS rather then high optimising because then you really need one of the big boys up there like 7800GT or X1800 from ATI.

you will see a big enough increase fron the 6200, as it uses your pc's memory instead of having lots of its own(which makes it crap but cheap). for about 165 eur ( first i looked at) you can get a 6600gt, which will give you a pretty big bost over your 6200 turbo cache

reasonable cheap?

that is fucking expensive for that card... where do you live?

and I agree with that 6800 thing - you can get one (GT or up - 16 pipes ftw...) for 170-180 euro; at least where I live...

an X800 with 16 pipes is cheap as well...

I`d say get one of those and yes, it will be noticable...

If you do get the 6600 you might want to make sure and do some research:

Start here:

I have a 6600, that I could not get to work with a VIA chipset MB to save my life. I have it working now with an NForce board and games play fine but if you can get a deal on a 6800 GT that is the way to go.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the advice - I've decided against the 6600 and have spent some serious cash on a 7800GT. I trust that this will be more than sufficient to play all the games out there and hopefully those that come out in the next few months?

Thanks for the help,
Stattaldo
